Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

SA v England kicking off in about half an hour.

SA are without Schalk Burger, suspended for this tackle in the Samoa game.

De Villiers is also out due to injury. This injury could be a blessing in diguise though as it makes room for Francois Steyn in the starting lineup. He's a really exciting young player.

England not without their own worries, missing their 2 first choice fly halfs.

Has the potential to be the game of the world cup so far if England show up.

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Just saw the that tackle for the first time. Pretty dangerous - here we connected with his neck when he was still in midair.

I won't be surprised if England gets destroyed (not that I'm looking for that).

Also, with Ireland getting Shane Horgan back and no doubt looking to redeem themselves, I'm expecting no less than 50 to be put up on Georgia.

On the other hand, USA rugby in general, is perceived favorably, even though we are pretty much a joke as far as competitiveness goes. Every club I've played against overseas has been very gracious and complimentary of the efforts to build the sport in the USA. Most of the growth has been grass roots type movements as I'm sure you are aware

[/ QUOTE ] Agreed, I've had the same experience as well. When my club has done tours overseas, other clubs always praised our efforts. Its just that the work is being done by a few passionate people at the ground level within the clubs themselves. Not higher-ups.

Also, it feels like forever since we saw the France-Argentina match. So pumped right now to see two quality teams go at it. I think SA will crush England but I hope I eat my words and it ends up being a competitive match.

nice half from south africa.

fourie du preez having a blinder for SA. best scrumhalf in the world? i think so. his tactical kicking is [censored] good and he reads the game really well.

it would be nice if england could make contest of it in the second half though.

It's on Versus, but with a big delay. Eng-SA is Sunday at 3 PM for me.

You can also find torrents and sopcasts using the usual methods, you have to do your own searching for that.

There are a lot of ways to watch the RWC. I made a post about it in the Sports Betting section and am too lazy to repost it here, but if you are really interested PM me. Oh and this is the best place to start: http://livefooty.doctor-serv.com/

Backing The All Blacks to cover the 115 point spread against Portugal today. This is going to be unreal.

And Tonga beat Samoa. That makes things a lot easier for England probably

Disturbance 09-16-2007 01:24 PM

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Good win for Tonga. England's decline since 2003 is depressing. In the run up to the World Cup win they beat all 3 of the top southern hemisphere sides home and away, a miracle would now be required to get through the quarter final and it's not even a certainty to get to that stage.

Have you seen them play? I haven't seen Ireland yet but England looked better than France or Argentina.

[/ QUOTE ]

I just want to say I could not have been more wrong, nobody in the history of watching rugby has been more wrong.

Some big games coming up this weekend

France-Ireland : probably the decider for 2nd place in Pool D, France should win here but will be a hard fought match, then Ireland has to finish against Argentina.

England-Samoa : must-win for England and they'll manage to scrape into the quarters; more importantly the Samoans will play tough and its a chance for England to get their act together and try to show some form.

NZ-Scotland : interesting because it's the only decent team NZ will face in Pool C, so we'll get to see how they handle tougher competition.

hedgie43 09-20-2007 05:45 PM

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Cbloom,

The more important game for England will be against Tonga. Tonga wins and they are through. Samoa should be tougher than Tonga, though.

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Just wanted to bump this as we've had, are having and are going to have some important games this weekend.

England beat Tonga to advance to the quarters. Italy-Scotland is later today with the winner advancing as well. Fiji is up 25-10 on Wales right now in what would be a pretty big upset. Winner goes to the quarterfinals. Pool D has a bunch of possible scenarios as even undefeated Argentina isn't guaranteed to go on without at least a bonus point against Ireland tomorrow. They also have a lot of incentive to win outright in order to be sure to avoid the All Blacks in the quarters. Very few filler games left and we are really getting to the good rugby of the tournament. Go Pumas!!

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Half time in Wales-Fiji now, tempers are getting frayed and its getting scrappy, but a compelling game to watch. 4.45am here, no plans to go to sleep yet. Would be really good for the tournament if Fiji pulled off the upset here.

NZ looked decent against Romania, but it was basically the B team. If Carter is out for a quarter final against France it would scare the [censored] out me.

Chairman Wood 09-29-2007 11:56 AM

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Don't want to speak to soon but there is a very high possibility of an all Southern Hemisphere semifinal as well 5 of the 8 quarterfinalists being from S. Hemis. for the first time ever (i think). It appears it isn't just the Tri-nations teams anymore.

Chairman Wood 09-29-2007 12:06 PM

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Very nice back line play leading to that try. Missed kick and now 25-22 Fiji

Chairman Wood 09-29-2007 12:31 PM

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

That not being ruled a try is huge.

bismillahno 09-29-2007 12:35 PM

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Such a huge swing, Fiji miss out on a try by a tiny margin, then Wales score an intercept try. Game of the tournament so far, go Fiji!

Chairman Wood 09-29-2007 12:44 PM

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

This is one of the best games I've ever seen. Just awesome. Time has passed and Fiji just needs to get a stoppage!

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Huge win for Fiji, absolutely amazing game. Agree its one of the best I've ever seen. Shame that Nicky Little got badly hurt at the end after playing so well, but I'm sure making the quarters takes some pain away.

I feel sick!!! Why do Wales keep doing this??? They won the Grand Slam in 2005 - now they don't even turn up for the matches. Pathetic.

I am too depressed I can't even drink beer right now

Re: *** Official 2007 Rugby World Cup

Finally saw the Wales-Fiji game. Wow, exciting match and great rugby, definitely worth a download. A couple of the tries by both sides were really beautiful. Fiji's style of everyone crashing and quick hands was just causing chaos in the Welsh defense. I wonder if Wales not kicking for points with all those penalties early on was a big mistake that cost them.
