Despite my avatar, screenname and interest in these threads, I'm really not much of a Star Wars expert (particularly wrt expanded universe stuff).

However, I did read Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader (sucked like every other EU book I have read) and I seem to recall that it said the Clone Troopers were rapidly aging, and that the Empire started doing normal military-style recruiting.

Yeah, these aren't clone troopers anymore by the time episode IV rolls around. After about 10 yrs the clone troopers aren't as effective and the Empire shut down the cloning facility, so they recruit stormtroopers after. In the book many of Luke's friends have joined the Empire in this way and he wants to go as well. Much of the rebellion was also trained this way and converted to the rebellion.

wow this is great, i have the day off and the girlfriend works so this means i'll probably watch star wars again and do some more mspaints... I gotta step up the quality though some of these submissions have been outstanding
