DK,

His claims aren't ridiculous at all and have a solid grounding in physics, whereas your claims are unscientific and you just being a sarcastic dick.

Why is it so hard to believe that shorter people with shorter limbs would do better in endurance running, rock climbing, etc?

Strange now that I think about it. I almost never notice peoples height though, unless they're taller then me which happens maybe once a month.

Holy crap. Now that I think about it, no way I could rank my friends by height, except for the few that are my height (6'3") or taller.

running?

how in the hell does the fact that I am 6'6" get in the way of how fast I can run? I have always been pretty fast, I guess I am just failing to reason out the logic here.

I was more or less eluding to the fact that your claims are completely without merit. the bottom line here is if you believe your own bs than we are good to go.

yeah, my claim that I *think* being taller would get in the way of things I like to do like running and climbing is real hard to defend. but more then that, I don't want to allude your underlying accusation. if you'd like to look at the *observations* I was relying on for these *speculations*, they're a few posts up.

yea 2 years is ridiculous. i've been unable to do anything athletic the last 21 months and i'm going crazy. had knee surgery in july, and would gladly give up 2 inches in height for the last couple years back able to run.

Alobar, man,

I don't climb much at all but awhile back I read this article (it's also the first Google hit for Osman). Outstanding article I recommend to all, whether they care about the sport or not.

On topic, I'm 6'3" and I consider that the perfect height. Tall enough to see over most people, chicks dig me like a ditch, but not so tall that I have to buy clothes at Big & Tall shops or fold myself into coach seats on airplanes.

Re: How much do you want to be a few inches taller...

I am 5-11, almost 6-0, always wanted to be 6-4. Tall enough to be taller than almost everyone, but not freakishly tall. And I coulda dunked.

My wife is 5-10 and she dated shorter guys, but it always bothered her because it made her feel self-conscious. Plus all the shorter guys had a complex about it.

Americans are puny compared to males from the Netherlands and Dinaric Alps who come in at 6 ft and 6ft 1 on average.

if I could gain 7-8 inches, I would probably sign up for this surgery.

But I figure my proportions would be a little off

Fail to note that America is much more of a melting pot than the Netherlands. Millions of Hispanic and Asians live here, which keeps the average height of an American lower than a country full of Northern-European white people.

Mind boggling.

The average white and black Americans are probably more like 5'11" to 6'0".

EDIT: To add, my girlfriend is 5'9" and very skinny so she already feels like an out of place Amazon woman around all the 5'2" girls with fat asses. She told me she probably would never date a guy shorter than her because it would make her feel even more weird. When she has heels on, I'm still at least an inch taller than her.

Re: How much do you want to be a few inches taller...

I'm 5'5.

Being short really hindered me in high school and I had to make up for it by lifting weights constantly so I would be able to fight when picked on.

You're an easier target to other men who try to bully people when you're short, and a practical unknown to the ladies.

The first piece of ass I got was off a really weird chick when I was 18, and after I'd banged her and dumped her she went around telling everyone I raped her because she was ashamed of banging me.

Why get this surgery though when you can just buy an SUV or a Silverado? My Silverado totally remedied the height situation with the ladies.

Edit: I would've liked to have been 5 inches taller, but whatever.

I think this is common among tall people. Once you get to a certain height (6'4" for me) everyone who is around 5'9" to 6" looks about the same and a whole bunch of girls from 5'2" to about 5'6" look the same. Only the really tall or really short are memorable.

But what do I know, I'm Asian. I also don't pay attention to shorter folks because I only like pretty people and have a low IQ.

I don't know. but the average physique for world-class milers is 5'9" and 145 pounds. world-class marathoners are a bit shorter, like 5'7" on average. the best distance runner in history haile gebrslaisse is 5'3" I believe.

I don't know the figures for climbers, but ed viesturs is a tall mountaineer at 5'10".

not saying tall people can't be fast or good climbers but I think if you stretched me out I'd be a lot worse at both.

[/ QUOTE ]

The leg length to height ratio is ridiculous on almost all world class runners. Gebrslaisse is basically legs and a head. So is El G.
