MT2R,

Don't know what to tell you. Tillman straight fell down a couple of times and they allowed Steve Smith to run wild on them. It was not their best performance.

None the less that has little to do with a regular season record and the high probablity of them keeping the Buffalo offense out of the endzone. Interesting fact, the Bills don't have Steve Smith, so the Bears should be fine.

You're doing a great job so far trolling Bears 2006 season thread. Although it's obvious the pass defense has been improved with Ricky Manning Jr. so if we happen to play Carolina again it will probably be a different story.

[/ QUOTE ]
More importantly, I don't think Lovie Smith is stupid enough to run a Cover 2 against Carolina again. The Seahawks thank you for letting an inferior team beating you, leading to a very easy win to get into the Super Bowl.

Apparantly I missed 2 of the int's but from what I saw the pass protection held up better than I expected and they actually converted some 3rd&longs. I didn't expect our defense to get torched that bad.

this is true, but the rule is enforced on a when we feel like it basis. ofcourse it must be, because if they called it on every play where a helmet hits someone, football would be over.

I [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Jaroun. "I don't want to be beat by the big play, we're only going to put 7 in the box." I wish I had heard that before kickoff, Thomas Jones would have been in my fantasy line-up.

The upside is we have found that the running game can step up if teams try and take away the pass. Which only makes this the scariest team ever.

Still trying not to be giddy. The only small fear I have is maybe a team like the Eagles or Patriots. Short passes are easily completed against the Bears and you can chip and chop down the field if you are very patient, don't mind getting killed everytime you complete a pass and manage not to make a mistake that gets picked off. I'm also pretty sure that you can confuse the hell out of Grossman with a very complicated blitz package. Which Minnesota kind of did. Then it's just a question of how much did he learn from that game.

Myturn's Cardinals up next. I wonder if Leinart comes in with confidence off of that pre-season game? That could make things fun when he is running for his life.

The Eagles are basically awful at short passes other than screens to Westbrook. Their recievers drop too many balls, in part because McNabb is scattershot and throws the ball very hard.

Bears @ Pats later in the season should be a good game. The Bears are clearly better right now...but as I've maintained for a while I think the Pats offense will be peaking later in the season. The Patriots also have a great and underrated OLine (and a great blocking TE in Graham) who are one of the few lines that could compete with the Bears front 4.

re: the complicated blitz schemes, I think you only see Belicheck get really tricky against QB's who have only seen the blitz packages on film. In the 2004 wins against the Colts, they played fairly vanilla b/c they know Peyton can read and adjust extremely well. Carson Palmer, on the other hand, was completely befuddled by the Pats 4-2-Nickel, and couldn't even explain to the media what went on.

what I have noticed is that the bears tend to win a championship every 20 or so years. THey won in 63, they won in 85, now its 06 so its time for them to do it up again

Bears could cruise to 16-0

Let me say upfront that I am not a Bears fan. However, looking at their schedule I think they could easily finish the regular season undefeated. Here is the remainder of their schedule:

Oct 16 @Arizona 8:30pm
Week 7 BYE
Oct 29 San Francisco 1:00pm
Nov 5 Miami 1:00pm
Nov 12 @N.Y. Giants 1:00pm
Nov 19 @N.Y. Jets 1:00pm
Nov 26 @New England 1:00pm
Dec 3 Minnesota 1:00pm
Dec 11 @St. Louis 8:30pm
Dec 17 Tampa Bay 1:00pm
Dec 24 @Detroit 1:00pm
Dec 31 Green Bay 1:00pm

The only tough spots here are the Pats, maybe the Rams, and (reaching) the Giants and Vikings (who they already beat). Every other team here is a cakewalk: The Bucs, Packers, Lions, Jets, Dolphins, 49ers, and the busting Cardinals.

I think it may be their time...

Re: Bears could cruise to 16-0

Chris,

I think they will easily lose a game in that 3 game road trip. I think Grossman's agressive nature will cost them a game in there somewhere. He has gotten pretty lucky with some dropped picks although against a team like New England in New England he probably won't be so lucky.

davelin 10-10-2006 06:00 PM

Re: Bears could cruise to 16-0

Three road games in the middle will be a tough test. I think St. Louis on the road is underrated as well. The Bears are no less susceptible to injury than any other team. As a Bears fan I'd be elated to have anything less than 3-4 losses.
