To answer questions, A9 was a vb, Q8ss is standard, and I think the 97 hand was non-standard but fine.

I'll admit you did get very unlucky on the last hand and a diamond would shut him down almost every time.

JMan, why play Phil Ivey at 300/600 in the first place?
What goes through your head?

Serious question - do you think you're +EV? Does anyone?

In particular, his stop-loss strategy and tendency to buy in short means you're VERY unlikely to take him for a big score. He quits as soon as he starts to lose.

So why does anyone play him?

This hand makes me think of Phil G's recent article about making hero calls, where he says the ones which work get all the attention and people forget the ones which didn't. I guess this was one of those ones which didn't work!
