Re: Playing out of a rack

(I'm sure I've posted this in the past.)

Place I worked at announced, "Starting at midnight, the new 'No Racks On Table' rule goes into effect."

I scoffed. It shouldn't speed up the game THAT much.

I was dealing at 12:00 when the racks were removed. The pace of the game picked up CONSIDERABLY. The difference was staggering. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would not have believed it. I went from "skeptical" to "convinced" in less than one minute.

They allow racks at the Gold Coast where I stayed during this year's WSOP. One night playing drunken 4-8 half kill it just worked out that on my side of the table no one was using racks and the other side of the table had a bunch of nits with all their chips racked up. I started a battle with the "Stacks " vs the "Racks" that finally got everyone at the table to loosen up and unrack their chips for once. The last old lady finally broke down when even the other locals were like "don't you want to be a stack instead of a rack?"
Goot times at The Gold Coast

In AC, it all depends on the dealer, but most places require a working stack as someone posted before.

I've that rack slide at Caesar's before as well. It's amusing. I feel playing out of the rack slows up a game though. Rather annoying.

so I don't know the real reason.

The real reason is that playing out of a rack slows the game down.

Racks also give you a large enough item on the table to cover cards. I missed it, but friends were playing when someone was caught doing exactly this. Player claimed it was an accident, of course. But supposedly when the tapes were reviewed it was clear that this guy intentionally picked up a rack, covered a card, and dragged the rack back in front of him when nobody was looking. Said person protested when told he was leaving the property claiming he'd just checked in. They explained to him that he would be escorted up to gather his things from his room and he was never ever to return to this or any other Harrah's property.

Playing out of a rack is encouraged at Casino San Pablo in the SF Bay area. It actually speeds the game up because they play no limit with $1 chips. The dealers will sometimes rack up part of the pot if it gets big in the middle of the hand so it doesn't take all night to push two or three hundred chips to the winner.

Sounds like someone there missed the point of having the chips.

I work as a dealer at the Commerce in L.A. and no one has ever mentioned playing or not being allowed to have racks on the table. Players (especially new ones obviously) play with racks all the time, and no one has ever commented on it.

the story i heard in the bay area is; if you have a rack on the table, the hand is inelligable for a bad beat jackpot.

but i also got the feeling this was something legislated on a local level.

At Foxwoods no racks on the table. Although I have seen people do it anyway. Typical yes/no/sometimes/maybe at Foxwoods. God I hope competition comes soon!
