Re: Philadelphia Home Game

Sorry, bunch of regulars showed up so only had room for one 2+2'r, despite interest from 3.

I discovered that having 10 people at a home game is difficult... with that many, people tend to get distracted and not focus on the game. This results in such annoyances as horrible play, people acting out of turn, people not paying attention when it's their turn to act, people having loud conversations when they are out of a hand, but someone else is and is in the tank, etc.

I think 7-8 is the magic number for a typical home game. With that many, there are usually enough people involved in the hand to keep the rest of the people respectful.

Can anyone comment on larger or multitable home games and how they kept things in order?

Invite players who are competitive with each other. My home tournies are almost always multitable and they run rather smoothly because when it comes to the game we all treat it fairly seriously.

(except that one time a drunk guy showed and almost ruined the game- at elast we got his money)

in a game like this with 9-10 people it is wise to have/hire someone to deal and keep the game running smoothly and have the dealer do the reminding

Hire a dealer? That would crush my profit margin... maybe I'll teach my girlfriend to deal and have her do it in exchange for hanging out with her mother.

Nah all you need is one or two table captains that keep the action moving- theyre annoying but they do get the job done.

There's a group of us that usually run a 1/2nl game out of Penn's campus, and I know of a few other local games and a suburban club that usually runs 2/5nl. PM me for details.
