I like to sit down with 3 black chips. The dealers love it the first time you post your blind and need $98 in change.

This happens a lot in KC in the 2-5 NL game when a player will sit with 5 blacks, this mainly happens as their is only one person that runs the poker bank and when they go on their half hour break every few hours you have to go to walk accross the casino floor and it sucks to buy a rack o red and walk accross so everyone just gets black, normally the table can make change easily so its not a big deal.

Also due to the Missouri loss limit, chip runners arent allowed, along with that you cant buy any chips from the dealer

That's horrible! So I guess the fish are expected to walk all the way across the casino to rebuy? Seems -ev to me.

Apparently the Borg has decided that having the cage operate faster is worth requiring the dealers to make a bit more change.

[/ QUOTE ]
That freaking cage better move fast, given that there are usually only two people working there, and everybody who's sitting down at the table has to get chips from the cage. Does it really kill the game to have the dealer give $300 in chips to a player about once every half an hour or so?

[/ QUOTE ]

The cage is pretty fast. Also, the Borg dealers will sometimes sell chips to entering players; it's inconsistent. They always seem willing to sell to re-buying players, which I think is most important.

White/Blue $1 chip NL games are complete jokes, IMO. I can only think of one casino in Vegas that spreads it (Fiesta Henderson, $40 max).

[/ QUOTE ]

That must be a terrible game. I can't stand $100 max in $1/$2. I want my damned implied odds!

Back to the original question, I like to have some greens in my pocket in addition to what I bring to the table. There is no problem bringing money on to the table after you lose a small hand. I play $200 buy-in and the worst thing is to only have $120 in front of you when you flop a set against an idiot w/ AK. Always top off your stack!

When in doubt, ask. The chip runners know what to bring. And the cage people know (or can look it up on their little cheat sheet--rooms that spread more than a couple games give the cage people cheat sheets to let 'em know whether the standard chips for the game are $1, $2, $3, $5, $10, or $25).

Which chip is yellow? $2? (it's pink at our local casino, a horrible choice of color)

It's probably not too unreasonable for them to assume that anybody who just comes up and puts money on the counter without saying anything is clueless and headed for 2/4.
