If the title of this post had just been Miami player shot
would you have thought it was a hurricane, dolphin, heat or red hawk?

"TSC, why won't you answer this question?"

Because you straw-manned him. You said, this news is not surprising. Then, you said, "If you heard that a Miami player has been shot..." and so forth.

Well, given the second part, of course the most likely interpretation is Miami University. First off, they are more likely to give the team names for pro sports. Secondly, there is a history of this type of thing at Miami U. and there is a lot more gang affiliation within college sports than pro.

That doesn't change the fact that the news that any person gets shot is surprising.

Actually, if you read, all I said is that this was surprising news. Somebody else provided the question above...which was convienently avoided.

It is really sad that I have to explain this to TSC.

Of course not, its pretty rountine for college athletes to be gunned down. WTF is wrong with you

[/ QUOTE ]

You've completely missed the point. I too was not all that surprised to hear this news and I definitely would have been surprised to hear this news at almost any other school. Ignoring this fact is going to result in these types of things continuing at Miami. Obviously something needs to be done at the university to prevent these things from happening in the future because athletes and football players in general at Miami seem to find themselves in a large number of dangerous situations. I'm not saying the person in question in this case did anything wrong to put himself in that situation, but it does seem to be a trend and can't just be ignored.

Re: Miami(FL) DT Bryan Pata shot and killed...

It seems that people are arguing about the semantics of "not being surprised."

I would not be "suprised" to hear that someone got shot in Miami, but I am "suprised" to hear that a Miami College Football player got shot. There is a difference.

It seems to me that what some people are saying is that "I'm not suprised that something of this nature would happen at some time, based on the recent happenings at Miami."

But, anyone who just plain says they are "not suprised" about the "specific" incident is being a little smug.
