This is a decent thread idea. Everyone has an opinion, it's meaningless but kinda funny. What more do you want?

[/ QUOTE ]

This is far more important and far ranging that the average OOT post.

to the 8:00:01 contingent, consider this:

if you said to a prospective employer you'd show up at an interview at "8p sharp," according to your logic you'd be violating that statement even if you showed up at 7:59:59, as well as if you showed at 8:00:01.

the obvious, logical, and common-sensical interpretation of "8p sharp" is that you'd be late by 8:01.

The obvious, logical and common-sensical conclusion is that when 8:00:00:00000000000000000 rolls around, you're there.

so you are assuming perfectly synchronized clocks/watches? at least synchronized to the second? wouldn't it be far more reasonable to expect synchronization to the minute?

[/ QUOTE ]

this is a very good point - if I had to be somewhere at 8pm sharp then I'd assume that I'd have as long as the watch says 8:00 to get there

I now agree with you

Quoted for blazingly obvious correct-ness.

There is a time-tested solution here that allows for a fudge factor. Anyone read Around the World in Eighty Days?

Get a grandfather clock. When it stops tolling, the bet has been lost. If you bet for 1pm instead of 9pm, tough nuggets.

If you told me, as your prospective employer that you would be there by 8P sharp, and I looked up at a clock with a time that started with 8, you'd better be in the chair already.
