I call the following "The Idiot's Monster"

Call Preflop with a drawing hand (pocket pair, suited connector)

Value bet the river.

Two folds, a standard open-raise of 4XBB, folded to me in LP with 77, or JTs. Are you suggesting raise or fold?

Checked to me on the river and I've got The Nuts. The term "value bet" suggests to bet all that I think villain will call. The alternative suggests that by overbetting you'll get called enough times to make up for the times villain folds.

I could use some clarification on these two points.

I think he means that average players don't build enough of a pot on early streets, so the river value bet stays small.

Very nice thread, I rarely slow-play anyway but I have never really taken into account scare cards killing action on future streets, Thankyou.

When you have a good hand, you want a ton of money in the pot.
When you have a drawing hand, you want to get your hand made cheaply.
When you are unsure if you have the best hand, you want to keep the pot small.

Good advice- I need to work on this since I've been kicked in the junk too many times slow playing. Right now I mainly play NL5 where it seems like a majority of people are passive until they catch a piece of the flop and then they hang around forever. I'd catch a huge flop and it'd check around. I'll usually bet turn and so many times am called and lose on river to a runner-runner fish. I'm making them pay to fish now.
