We have friends who have actually named their children:

Brock

[/ QUOTE ]

My brother's name is Brock, and I happen to think it's a pretty cool name. Ass.

[/ QUOTE ]

Forgot to mention that Brock is a girl's name. Cute little blonde girl named BROCK.

Sheesh.

or in choosing one of those currently en vogue "yuppie names" that make me want to puke. We have friends who have actually named their children:

Brock
Avery
Riverson
Lee-Lee

Riley
Cameron
Logan
Caden
Carter

Who care's what they think.

Oh, we don't, but we're both just stunned at the way that they respond. It starts as astonishment and ends in anger and they are incredibly shrill the entire time.

The reaction is solidifying Oscar as the choice in my mind.

Don't name your kid based on spite.

For both our kids we kept names a secret so we wouldn't have to deal with the nonsense.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nah, I won't. We have two that we both agree on and it's one of them. It's a coinflip right now.

Yeah, Brock is solid. (Edit: for a boy)

Riverson? Not so much.

Also, I have a friend that I desperately tried to talk out of naming her kid "Blaze", with no success. L

There's also Oscar Madison ... it's a long way from a great name or one with good associations. I think it's kind of like naming your kid Henrietta or something. Sure, it's a name, but ... eh, it's very old-school, like a century ago old school, and not very sexy.

[/ QUOTE ]

You've got Oscar Madison and Oscar the Grouch.

I've got Oscar Robertson, Oscar Peterson, Oscar Charleston, Oscar Woods, Oscar De La Hoya, Oscar Wilde, Oscar Grimes, Ossie Davis, Oscar Judd, Oscar Pettiford, Oscar Gamble. Music, Acting, Writing, and Sports - Oscars and everywhere.

The influx of Mexican and other Latin population and births is contributing to a mini-rally in Oscar:
