I'd have bet the flop if i was in position. Then i could check the turn and see a free river and call any non-diamond. However, OOP, i'm checking this flop.

I bet the flop for both protection and value for like 80.
I understand that ppl check it to control the pot, but I think betting is more favorable here, since the pot will still be under control and we might be able to take it down a whole lot.
Turn is a pretty easy fold, since villain has T3 and you're drawing thin.

You played it fine until you called. Nothing wrong with checking flop & leading turn OOP. Leading the flop bloats the pot and forces us to check the turn when called.

Flop check is fine, but check flop and check turn sucks. The problem with betting the flop is you need to bet a lot of turns and than half your stack is in the pot and you are stuck in a lot of crappy spots. If you are going to bet flop check turn you might as well check the flop and try to get a bluff out of one of the limpers.

I really think top pair should be lead in unraised pots unless there's more than 5 players total or you have no kicker or further potential at all. Really wanna check-call unable to control pot size etc ? Then they often fire any turn big and you have to fold.. Lead flop, check turn if called for me and possibly value bet river if nothing happens. Complete shutdown if more than one caller on flop.

how does betting yield superior pot control over checking the flop? just because you get to control the bet size doesn't mean the pot is controlled.

Re: $16: What the F is this?

It means that if we lead, we fold to a raise and check-fold to a big bet on the turn instead of checking and being faced with a potsize bet or bigger from possibly an inferior hand.
