cpitt,

The only thing you can say about Kimbo is that he probably hits hard. We still have no clue how his standup will translate in a "real" MMA fight.

OK, your right. I think what i was trying to say came off wrong.

If you put him and any UFC fighter in a ring and made them box only, I would take Kimbo.

But your right, if you are worrying about takedowns and kicks, it changes things. I still predict that his standup will work out for him in MMA. Yes he hits hard, but I think it is deeper than that. His overall boxing is very good.

vitor belfort would tear him up even being around 205.

Good to see Mac make it through to the semis.

What does everyone think of the matchups Serra put together?

Seemed like Serra wanted to make sure his strongest fighter (George) made it to the semis and his weakest (Richie) got eliminated.

Putting Danzig against Kolosci was a smart gamble, I suppose, as Kolosci was one the few that had a snowball's chance of beating Danzig. Seems like Serra knows it's gonna be a George-Mac final and wants to give George the easiest route to the championship and Mac the hardest. If Serra picks the semis (not sure how it works), I bet he puts the winner of Ben/Tommy against Mac and gives George either Troy or Matt.

Right now I don't think Troy or Matt have any chance of winning, and Ben and Tommy are longshots, but they have a chance due to their physical attributes if they get lucky.

Edited to add: I think the Ben/Tommy fight is gonna be the best fight of the quarterfinals, and maybe the best fight overall, with the possible exception of George/Mac.

I'm gonna be disappointed if George/Mac isn't the final fight.

I am too, but I'd rather see just about anybody else win besides those two (except Richie). I'd love to see Tommy just bull his way through everybody, even though he's shown practically no technical skills.

Don't know how I forgot to post this here...

Thierry Rameau Sokoudjou is fighting Lyoto Machida at UFC 79.

Great Success!

Machida wins this one, he's way underrated.

This fight makes no sense from the UFC's perspective, IMO. These are two top fighters, but Machida's fights have been relegated to the undercard, and nobody will know who Sokou is. If Sokou wins, nobody will think too much of it (and it will probably be ugly). If he loses, he's screwed. Same for Machida.

They should have given Sokou a guy he could easily KO, and put Machida against someone like Griffin, so that if he won he'd have more cred.

Interesting that Hughes brought up the fact that Serra is kinda paving the road with two of his own guys. Wonder if he can get Richie and Matt pissed off that they are being tossed under the bus so their teammates can move on.

As for the Soku fight. I kind of agree this might be a no win fight. Machida has a good record and a great rep on the internet, and Soku has a couple nice highlights and a bunch of people saying hes the second coming. Without mainstream acceptance though, its going to be hard for a lot of people to care about the loser or consider it a good victory for the winner.

Machida will prolly get a title fight after rashad/bisping if he wins against sokou.
