Watch it again. Barrett did go for the ball right away, and then went back to make the tag. I think McClelland probably then verbally called safe (even on his delayed ball-strike indications, he verbally calls the pitch right away) before signaling safe, which caused Barrett to pause before tagging him.

I'm sorry, the angle they just showed on the pre-game coverage on TBS shows he ABSOLUTELY did not touch home. Some people in this thread have been saying its inconclusive, there was no definitive view, this one was from sort of above and a little towards the firstbase side of "right behind homeplate" and you could see the catchers foot clearly in front of homeplate the entire time.

Yes, and there have been definitive replays of Atkins ball going over the fence

So all of this controversy would've been moot

Except you can't say that at all. Had they called that a HR, the Rockies MIGHT have won it in regulation. Its impossible to say that for sure, though. There chances do go up, of course, but there is no reason to think the rest of the game plays out the way it did.

This is not the same as the play at the plate. That ENDED the game. Took your chances of winning from like 60% or whatever they would have been if it was called correctly to 100%. No predicting the future, no guesswork, it ended the game.

This is not a fair trade, and does not make the whole controvery moot.
