We may get to see Wuertz in the 9th. Dumpster's pitched 3 street nights.

94 pitches for Marshall through 8 innings. Why pull him for a PH?

saw a rumor on some baseball message boards that the Padres might be interested in Murton/Jones (more likely Murton). Possibly Linebrink for Murton

he's had some trouble with walks in the past. looks like he's gotten over that though, looks to be Cubs best bet for that 5th starter

Yeah, Marshall is pretty good. He's a low-rent Rich Hill.

It's Dempster that you need to get rid of. Wuertz is your best reliever and it is not close whatsoever.

Dempster has been fine. You can argue that Wuertz is better and should close and that's fine, but Dempster is doing about what you can expect. 14/16 in save opps. Why would you want to get rid of him?

Rotation looking damn good:

Z seems to have it figured out.
Hill is awesome.
Marshall has pitched well every time out so far.
Marquis has been way better than expected. (hopefully, his last couple starts arent a sign of things to come)
Lilly has been pretty good though he has struggled a bit lately (can't argue with a 1.07 WHIP though)

Good win tonight. Marshall's outing was huge for our bullpen.

Re: The Official 2007 Chicago Cubs Thread

Wuertz consistantly strikes out more than a batter per inning, something Dempster has never done. They both have terrible control, but that's less of a factor when it comes to closers (as shown interestingly enough by BP's studies).

Basically I'm trying to say that Wuertz is at the very least as good as Dempster and costs much less (while being much younger).
