How about a million a year? Anyone think more than 200 people?

Smart Money on here makes close to half a mil a year by 12 tabling 1/2 FR. So i suppose a lot of ppl are making 1/4 mil.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's so sick, but I can see how it's feasible (maybe?) to nutpeddle 10blinds/hour at 12 tables for $240/hr, if you were the king of low limit NL, and didn't go insane after the first 20 minutes. 12 tables . . . you kids these days.

heh 1/2 fr i can only imagine id be able to 16+table that

i 9-table 3/6 nl 6max

No way, such a huge gap from 250k to 1 mil. I would guess around 1000 people will do that this year. Remember that many people who might regularly make this much donk a nice chunk back playing higher games when they are on life tilt, drunk, etc... such is the life of a poker player...

Most decent grinders at 2/4+ will do this pretty easy. Id say atleast 2,000. Also your all forgetting about guys playing live a couple times a week, this would be possible at 5/10NL and 10/20NL for sure. Factor in live donkaments etc atleast 5k but probably many many more.

Also if you win 40 to 100k in a live tournament very possible at $1000 buyins then making 250 in a year is pretty easy.

Assuming online-only and assuming this is sustainable (ie not counting people who win a big tournament or catch a month long heater and then stop playing).

You figure 5-10 tournament players.
Figure 5-10 nosebleed players.
Figure 5-10 SNG players.
Figure 5-20 people who grind out 25/50nl/pl and 1/200 limit who don't put in a ton of table hours/week but have great game selection.

The rest are going to be made up of low and mid stakes grinders, most of who fly under the radar. Estimate that most of these players have to put in between 100-150 table hours/week. More at levels like 3/6nl and 10/20 limit, less at 10/20nl and 30/60 limit. If we estimate that there are 15 tables going at any point in time, with half of those being 6-handed, that's 2700 table hours per day, so just shy of 19,000 hours a week. That's enough room for around 150, but that's impossible since then they would all be playing each other and nobody would be making any money, so if we assume that the table can only support half grinders and half fish at any time, thats about 75 per level per year. If we assume four grindable levels of nl and three of lhe, that's about 525 people. Double that for the omaha games, and you're looking at around 1,050 people.

Add in all of the other 250k/yr players above, plus a couple HU specialists and stud game specialists and I think a very rough estimation of 1,100 people would be in the ballpark. But again, that number is a rough estimate of how many 250k/yr players the economy can support, the number that it actually does is probably far less than that.

Basically any 4+PTbb/100 player from 2/4NL and up is going to make $250K+ per year. I would say around 2,000 players total (including tournaments and all other games).

Re: How many people will make more than $250,000 this year playing pok

i can only speak for the limit side of things.

there are tons of people who have the hourly rate to make 250k, but just wont end up putting in the necessary hands. im not even talking about unreasonable 50 hour work weeks. even 30 solid hours of 4-6 tabling is something that becomes a huge drag. i could have kept pace for 250k if i was pushing in 50k hands a month, but somewhere along the line, 50k hands turned into 40k, which turned into 30k.

it's very possible to do it at the lower midstakes, but is unlikely to happen unless you're extremely dedicated and very hard working. i cant see the number exceeding 250 (for limit hold em).

How many people have earns over 4 PT BB/100 over huge samples at 2/4 on stars and full tilt? Is it really over 50 or 100? I don't know the answer, i'm just guessing. Also many of these ppl. actually lose money taking shots, playing higher, and entering some tournies for the fun of it. Sure they may be +EV sometimes and some will make a bunch and have big years, but on average a few live tournies will be more of a ilability then a help...

i love how alot of people are starting their arguements with: "so assume a 5/10 regular, beating it for 3ptbb long run...." chk out the datamines, there are not many 510 regulars beating it for 3+.only the very good ones are.

now, of course lots of players who could beat 510 for 3+ are already playing higher, but there just arent that many 510 regulars beating the games for what people may think.

people over estimate the [censored] out of online winnings.

i would love to see one graph of >$250k at 3/6 and below for the year, much less many. there arent nearly as many really succesful regs at mid and hi stakes as people think there are.

i would be surprised if the number is over 1000.

I'd say 750ish is a good estimation.

Although I think if you did July-December, a lot more people will have made more than $125,000.

I think a lot of people had to adjust to the games towards the beginning of the year, and are now doing much better

This is very true, tons of these regs probably have wrs in the 2-3 range and play in the 20-25 hr/week range. Question is better phrased as people who have made $250k/yr at least 2 years in a row.

IMO a lot of the naysayers here just cant fathom people winning 250k because it's absurd to them that someone else can be winning more $ than them.

It's simply outrageous how many people that I know personally will make 250k+ this year. And I pretty much stay out of the poker community and go about my own business. I dont know anything about tourney players, dont have any 2p2 friends, and dont play live.

Re: How many people will make more than $250,000 this year playing poker?

Tell me if my math is right because I'm about to end this whole argument.

This year I made about 15k in poker part-time. I've never read a book and the only forum I visit on 2+2 is NVG. Therefore, the guys that read the books and visit the strat forums definitely make more than me and a great number of them are full-timers.

3k online
12k live games

There are over 5000 players (extensive research based on cardplayer of the year standings and hendonmob rankings) that play 10x the amount I play and are better than me.

Therefore 5000 making at least $150k.

Of those 5000 players, at least half of them are playing higher levels than myself, which would double their hourly rate and divided by the square root of the % which their skills are better than mine means that:

2500+ make $250k/year.

And this is not even factoring in tournament players.

So with Jerry Yang and lil hold em thrown into the equation, 2502+ @ $250k.

Re: How many people will make more than $250,000 this year playing pok

I voted between 1000 and 2000, but thinking about it, it may be a lot more.

A while ago there was a thread about how much players would clear a million this year and I believe I was saying under 100 or something, but on the other hand, I think the 250K-1M group is enormous.

There are 2/4 NLHE HU players who already win >250K/year.

Every 2K NLHE pro should be above 250K/year since that's only 10 buyins/month for them, which is easy if you are a winning player.

Every 50/100 LHE pro should be above 250K as well since 1250 big bets / year isn't that much.

If you play high stakes omaha you just have to run hot for a couple of sessions.

Then there is the large group of live players who run hot this year, the large group of tournament players with big scores......

I think it might be above 2000 players, but it's more than 1000 for sure anyway.

I think a lot of people are saying it because everyone just makes assumptions based on winning at rate which is not realisitic for 99. something percent of people, playing a number of hands which is not realistic for 99.something percent of people. Serious question, how many do you think you know who will clear 250k? Several of the skeptics here are actually people who do it but also just know well enough that there is a reason every single big datamine produces exponetially less winners of this magnitidue than everyone percieves there to be.

The kind of people who make the 250k are either

a) people who run good in the 5kNL+ games
b) people with redargoe'esque work ethic in 3/6 through 10/20
c) people who grind hard in the HU games, 2/4 through 5/10
d) people with a tournament score(s)

obviously im in category d
