His junior year he put up 1,695 yds avg 6.6 ypc. His senior year he rushed for 1,450 yds avg 5.5 ypc. I wasn't alive during the '70s, so my opinion is pretty worthless but those stats aren't exactly eye-popping. It appears on initial glance that he his trophy senior year was based on reputation. IMO Griffin is the third-best running back from tOSU, behind Eddie George and Robert Smith. |

I thought Anthony Davis deserved the first one. Chuck Muncie might have been best the next year, but he was on a weak Cal team and his eligibility is still a mystery. So he got them both. Fair enough. |

Ok, so let's start naming the people we are 99.99% sure will be on this. I've got 2:
Herschel Walker Barry Sanders 99% sure: Marcus Allen Roger Staubach 95% sure: OJ Simpson |

can Vince Young really be on the list given that he'd have to be a lot higher than Reggie Bush? [/ QUOTE ] That's a good question. Part of it is trying to outguess the voter. I think the NC game is so vivid in recent memory and he was so spectacular that it might be enough. And that is a good point about Grange. I'd add Thorpe in part because of the recent book, his heritage and stuff makes him an interesting addition, and he is probably very deserving. In a similar vein I think one of the Bama QBs (I chose Namath) is kind of a surrogate for the Bear, in addition to having a great collegiate career. |

Archie Griffin doesn't belong on this list. He was solid, but he wasn't some TOP 25 ALL-TIME talent like Adrian Peterson or Herschel Walker.

Tony Dorsett will be in final 11. 6,000 plus rushing yards with a Heisman and a National Championship. Unfortunatley most great running backs won't stick around for 4 years of college ball.
