Re: Worst acts of banroll management you have ever seen....

About ten years ago, Binions Horseshoe in Vegas had a tournament series called Hall of Fame or something like that. A very young player about 21 or so won one of the Omaha events for like $19K or so, which was a decent tourney win at the time. This was before the internet and television boom, so a young player winning a tournament was sort of a big deal. BTW, this guy was perpetually broke and looking to get staked so $19K was huge for him. So after winning the tournament he goes down the street to one of the pawn shops and gets himself a Rolex. He then goes back to Binions and sits down playing $100 a hand BJ. By morning he had to sell the Rolex back and completely busto.

I got a friend interested in online poker, tried over and over to teach him how to play tight, bankroll requirements, etc.. He never got it.

At the same time this friend and his wife had tried for years to adopt a baby from China. When they approval FINALLY came thru, I xferred $500 into his Stars acct as a way of congrats and to help pay the bills for their trip to pick up the girl. My friend tho sits down at a $1/2 $200 buyin NL game and proceeds to lose all the money I gave him. Kinda pissed me off. Said friend now just plays for pennies online, which is for the best.

Me, hitting an ATM in a casino and chasing poker loses at a blackjack table in the same day. Martingale can't lose, DUCY?

More stories involving Chinese babies please.

Their was a quote by Layne Flack, something like my girlfriend jokes around with me that I would bet my daughter in a game if I could, but I would never bet my daughter unless I had the nuts... or I thought the other guy would fold.

Things I've done - some worked some didn't. All mine is from my pocket, (-) means I was down a decent amount. Up some is with mainly winnings.

5000NL with 6.5k (all mine -), 5k (all mine even) in my account
200/400 with 9k (up some)
2000NL with 1.8k (all mine even)
15/30 with 500 (all mine -)

There are numerous others, which aren't as bad.

Re: Worst acts of banroll management you have ever seen....

When I first started playing poker I put in 600 in FTP to get 600 bonus. In a month and a half of playing between classes I got to aroun 14k. Always playing normal stakes for me slightly above my head maybe, but would drop down after a big loss so never a chance of going broke.

Then all of sudden my attitude changed. I guess surrounding oneself with constant gamble leads to this. Late one night I sit in three handed with Allen C and Ivey on 200-400 limit. Mind you, I was a 2/4, 3/6, 5/10 NL player. I mess around with some drunk friends rooting me on and win like 3k.

Then I site a 25/50 NL and remember there were some pros. I only clearly remember Layne Flack, cause he busted me. Well after like an hour my 15k is like 8k. No big hands just continuation bets and calling preflop raises and hitting. Eventually its just me and flack and i run well and get close to even.

Then I have button and raise AJ, he reraises, and I call. I push J high flop and lose to J2. I then spent the next 10min begging him to transfer me back my roll.

This brings back some memories.....horrible ones.

Had a great run in early August playing SnGs. Was up about 12K playing $55 SnGs at PArty Poker. I go on a 20 BI downswing one night and go on tilt. But like a true disciplined poker player I close my tables because I know I will spew.

...but like a true degenerate I open the blackjack icon on party to win back that 1K. First hand I bet $500...lose. Then bet $1000...lose. Then I bet $1000 and double an 11 against a 5...lose. Then two more hands of $1000...lose both. Basically lost $5500 in 30 seconds, pretty much my entire bankroll. Good times.

I played at the $11 and $22 for a few weeks as punishment.

I have a friend who is grinding NL10 and was pretty happy to be up 350$ after one month (which is more than decent for NL10).

He some how saw an ad for a software that could "beat the RNG" and could somehow predict the flop before it is dealt for 500$ only !!!.

I tried to talk him out but he didnt listen and bough it for what was his roll + his monthly profit.

I was coming back from hospital after a minor surgery & was on pain killer, I was thinking that I shouldn't play poker & go sleep because I might not have all my head.

once at home, the 1st thing I did, was to log on full tilt, & see Phil Ivey playing HU with David Oppeinhem on 15-30 LHE. I obviously jumped in the game !

-jpp

PS- it was in 2004, & at this time that was the biggest limit on FTP, & at this time, a FTP'pro could site on a mid-limit'table without to have a 100'names'lineup on the waiting list.

Three weeks ago I was almost broke, and stumbled across some site that gave $30 free bankroll on CD poker, so I got it and started playing 2c/4c PLO, made 20 bucks and decided to play a $5r tourney and placed 2nd for $1400. I started playing 2/4, 3/6, 5/10 limit games with some 100nl and 50PLO and in two weeks I had my bankroll at $3800 thanks to $800 rakeback.

Well I cashed out 1000$ of it to all my bills and rent and blew the rest of it on [censored] BJ, roulette and 3 card poker in 1 day. I hate my life now since I blew more money in one day then I make in 3 months at my 9-5 job If I didnt blow my roll, I would be making more money from rakeback then I make at work. You actually managed to get CDPoker to honour a withdrawal? Wow, that must be a first!
How many forms of I.D. did they [censored] you for and how long did you have to wait?

I turned $50 into $4600 playing PLO on CDPoker in just two days. Unfortunately CDPoker are bastards and wouldn't let me cash it out despite meeting all their requirements, sending in so many forms of I.D. it's not funny, so I sat at $5/$10 and lost it in a morning. I blame CDPoker entirely - semi-criminal site.

Because he signed up through an affiliate that as well as an initial no-deposit $30 then give you rakeback based on how many points you accumulate. I went through them too.
