I left under the idea that I was pulling one over on the casino. When I realized the truth of course I would never try to screw someone over like that. 100 is alot of money to most people and dont effect the quality of my life at all. Forget karma, its just clearly the right thing to do.

They don't get in trouble for this. Cashiers are bonded, insured against errors like this. It happens all the time, and it's part of the price of doing business for casinos. Some insurance company somewhere will eat that loss.

Everyone here should remember that when you're the recipient of a favorable pay-out error on the part of a casino employee, be it a cashier, a blackjack dealer, or whoever else. In the case of a table game, it will just get lumped in with the table hold (reducing it by whatever amount) and will never be discovered. In the case of a cashier or someone working the floor like a slot change person, the casino is aware humans make mistakes and they are insured against it. The chance that "you get someone fired" because you don't alert them to their pay-out error is virtually nil.

[/ QUOTE ]

If this is true then [censored] the casino. It`s owned by the government so consider it a tax rebate.

It's not.

You'd have to be a pretty scummy person to make someone lose their job over $100.

Was studying some bs management course in the library when my friend called me to go play some craps. I ditch that [censored] and go play some dice. We lose a bit at the craps table, win some at roulette. Leaving I throw a quarter on some random chinese dominoes board and win, so im up a hundred on the day.

We go cashout and I have 330 in chips. Guy stacks the quarters, stacks the fives, then says "430" when I can clearly see its 330. Im like sure, grab the cash, tip him a fin and get the [censored] out. Take that stupid montreal casino.

SO baller cashing out for 1k after playing $100/hand blackjack @ 18 w/ a bunch of 40-year-old nits laying 25/hand.

Also, wtf is up with all those saying the guy's going to get fired? Are you crazy? Do you know how much training an employee costs? Much more than $100 even for a cashier position. Unless he regularly pays too much, the guy won't lose his job... I've had gas stolen when I worked in a gas station (here it's not pay before you gas), do you really think I had to pay to cover? WTF? Working as a cashier would be the most -EV and Variance-filled student job ever if you had to all the time. Maybe my employer was nice and I was lucky but I always thought that was standard.

The casino is owned and operated by the Société des casinos du Québec, which also has 2 other casinos in the province of Quebec. WTF sort of country do you folks live in that allows the employer to hold employees financially responsible for a miscount?

Here in Australia, it is illegal for employers to make those sort of rules. Someone paid a few dollars an hour is going to make a mistake, and that's a cost of business.

The employee shouldn't be made liable to pay it back - otherwise it would be necessary to have credit checks on your employees who handle large amounts of money (since they'd be supposedly liable if they miscounted a few k or something)

Also, I am halfway leveling. I believe it is dishonest to rip off an institution, even a dishonest one. Integrity is a rare quality and it doesn't make much sense to sell it for a hundred dollars, much less to brag about it. At the same time, I would like to see an "Ahnuld's Thirteen" photoshop.

The best situation ofcourse would be to have the *freedom* to create your own contracts and let the market sort itself out. Making certain contractual arrangements illegal is not good.

What does that have to do with anything?

If employers create bad contracts then the market will punish the organization. But only if the market is allowed to operate. Restricting contracts is good for no party.

How would you feel if I were to 1. try to gain the power to enforce my own subjective set of contract restrictions on others and 2. enforce them ? I would be viewed as a criminal who gets in other people's ways.
