Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

I'm not betting anything. I know nothing about sports gambling so I'm not about to get taken advantage of. All I wanted was to have a discussion about the game but I guess on a poker website everybody is more interested about the gambling aspects/making money than actually talking about the game.

There's a good chance Harrison doesn't play or isn't anywhere close to 100% and that definitely has a major impact on the game...

No, we care about people who have no [censored] clue what they're talking about shutting the hell up.

Most of you don't think the Colts are heavy dogs, but I think they are, especially with all the momentum the Pats have. I pick the Pats to win by at least 2 TD's.

also, while this game is important, they're going to meet again in the playoffs where the implications are much more important so unless either team blows the other one out (I can see the Pats blowing the Colts out but not vice versa) it really won't mean too much

[/ QUOTE ]

Agree and disagree. The game isn't that important other than it may well decide home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. That makes it potentially huge.

[/ QUOTE ]

Because the Colts couldn't use another AFC win? They have already won the AFC South right, because its not like the Titans or the Jaguars have a chance at winning the division. I guarentee you the Colts want to keep that 2 and half game edge on both those teams. Remember, if the Colts lose this game and still have to play both those teams, albeit, at home. I guarentee you the Colts see those two teams continue to win and realize that this division is nowhere near won yet, and I bet you their fans feel the same way.

Pats...well I think that might be another story considering they have a 4 and half game lead on the closest team, and that team isn't really a playoff team.

Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

Harrison is going to play. The whole reason the Colts held him out today was to make sure he'd be healthy for the Pats game.

Colts will win this game or at least keep it very close, no doubt IMO.

I agree completely. Freeney is a damn good player at home, that noise helps him tremendously. I feel this Indy team is the best in the NFL.

lastchance 10-28-2007 09:33 PM

Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

The Colts and the Patriots pretty much have playoff spots locked up. This game is about two things: 1) HFA in a rematch. 2) The all-important "Bye" opponent in the Wild Card round.

The Titans and Jags are good teams, but the difference between the 2 seed and the 3 seed in the NFL is more important than the difference between the 3 seed and the 6 seed, IMHO.

If the Colts win their next two games they will unquestionably be the best in the league.

They have a really tough road ahead of them.

Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

Sublime,

When did it become ridiculous to have an opinion about a team? I hope you realize I also want the Patriots to beat the Colts so the Jaguars can still have a shot at the AFC South. I don't see either team having a significant advantage over the other. So I take the position of the devil (aka Manning) being better than Brady and that is where I decide the Colts are above the Pats. But I am a ridiculous homer.

Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

the funny thing is, what happens if Indy wins?

nobody even knows that Indy is undefeated, with NE getting all of the press attention.

if Indy wins, does everyone immediately get on the Indy bandwagon and NE goes by the wayside? or everybody just says its a fluke and ignores Indy?

peyton >>> brady

pats >> indy

saying peyton > brady and thats why indy > pats is really silly. the patriots have better skill players and a better defense (by a noticeable margin IMO).

Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

I'm actually basing it on what I saw last Monday Night vs Jacksonville that made me say the Colts were the best team in football. Manning even in a game where his accuracy was not the best was making reads that even the most elite QB's would struggle with. I'm disgustingly sick of seeing the man play football because of what he does to it. I never really appreciated what he did until that game.

Maybe its the fact that I get to watch about 15-20 hours of film a week of football and get a chance to break it down and it's help me in evaluating certain things when I watch games on the weekend. It's not much, but it's enough for me to appreciate someone that I didn't before hand.

I think you are missing Dallas Clark which I feel has found a way to torch safies and LB's this year. Clark is an enourmous part of the offense, not to mention his blocking skills have increased this year as well.

Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

i am willing to call the skill positions a wash, but then you get into depth and the like, coaching staffs. i mean NE is just better...i am sorry. they are 4 point favorites ON THE ROAD which means like 7 or so on nuetral field. granted thats only a bettering line, but the betting line is a REAL GOOD indicator of overall teams strenghts.

Skill Players? I don't know about that. Addai averaging 4.9 YPC, Keith averaging 4.7 YPC. I think the Patriots are better, but they're better b/c of how sick that passing game is, so yeah, I think they're better at WR. Defense is pretty close though. NE's probably better, but it's not a huge difference.

Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

Indy has two legit #1's.

Moss is better than a legit #1.

Stallworth/Welker are not even in Harrison or Waynes league.

Addai has performed better than Maroney. Clark has performed better than any NE TE.

Saying NE has better skill players is a huge stretch.

NE has a big edge on defense, and a big edge with Moss.

Every other skill position and QB Indy has an edge in my estimation.

Welker is the #2 option though. Just because he's in the slot is no reason to put him behind Stallworth in the hierarchy.

Also, LOL at the prob. Wayne is definitely better than Stallworth.

Welker isn't >>>>>>>>> Morehead or Gonzalez or whomever. Look at the numbers Stokley put up in Indy a couple of years ago. Welker didn't find some fountain of youth. He is a good slot or mediocre number 2 reciever and he isn't that much better than a replacement level reciever. The gap between Wayne and Stallworth is similar to the gap between Colts #3 adn Welker maybe bigger.

Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

I don't think NE has a big advantage on def but definitely an advantage. I will be the first to admit that I thought the losses in the offseason was going to hurt the Colts tremendously on defense, yup, I was wrong.

Bob Sanders is the heart and soul of the Colts, with him on the field I feel like that unit thinks they can accomplish anything. That DL at times is tremendous. I do feel like they are hit or miss, especially on 3rd and long, I truly dislike Freeney's pass rushing style, but it is extremely effective so what do I know. I'll let those more in the know of NE comment on them. And hopefully people that know Indy better than I do go further.

I will say that the Colts are surprisingly solid on defense. And Bob Sanders is a complete stud. I don't know how to quantify how big the edge is, but I do favor the Pats there by a decent margin. But, I don't know either that well so could very well be wrong.

If Clark isn't the Colts #3 (and let's face it, he is), I don't really think the Colts have a guy as good as Welker is on their roster. I don't think Moorehead or Gonzalez are mediocre #2 WR's right now.

Re: ***** Clash of the Titans, Week 9: NE @ Ind*****

As I said in my mini-write up in the AFC South thread, I really have no idea how to compare these defenses. Neither will have faced an offense like the one they are preparing for this week, and I just don't think any amount of filmwork or practice can prepare either of them.
