he sits in, explains that he's been a railbird at these games for so long, knows how benyamine plays, and isn't scared. then he plays one hand and loses his whole stack, Q973 to AA.

Re: LuckyJimm - Omaha pro - silences the doubters!

Serious question: do you think I should try short-stacking $2/$4 and $3/$6? I've got the Slotboom book. This way I could potentially make a big score while minimising financial risk. The drawback, however, is I tend to play too many hands, and I couldn't do this, I'd have to significantly tighten up if I wanted to successfully short-stack.

I just saw some guy buy in for $450 and get it up to $8600 in 25 hands on a $10/$20 six-max table. That'd be nice.

Re: LuckyJimm - Omaha pro - silences the doubters!

i would say 10/20 games SOOOOOOOO soft.

Re: LuckyJimm - Omaha pro - silences the doubters!

jim i wouldn't bother shortstacking. you like seeing lots of flops from what i can make out from your hand postings, and you probably wouldn't have the discipline to effectively shortstack, and also it takes out of the question your vastly superior flop post flop play. Ur the man luckyjimm

luckyjimm 10-26-2007 06:12 PM

Re: LuckyJimm - Omaha pro - silences the doubters!

Killsadie, do you really think the iPoker 10/20 games are soft? I've seen some very donkish moves, but clearly there's a large pool of VERY well-rolled players in this game. And, yes, I've seen some really good players.

I short-stacked the 5/10 game once before, buying in for 400. (Though that is twice what a true short-stack should have, right). Fell down to 250, tripled up to 750, won some more, then doubled up to 1900 and left. It was fun. But, yes, I'm so keen to see flops, and after calling a few raises suddenly I'd find I'd lost most of my money. Instead I should be playing all-in or fold, right?

Also, if you short stack and lose a bit, can you top up to what you started with or does that defeat the object?

If I do give it a go, it will be at 3/6.

But I think Andy's right. I like to see flops. To make up for calling too much preflop, I have good judgement post-flop - I know what hands to keep going with.

My apologies. What site and level do you play?

I've certainly been running well - in particular, winning $700 and $900 pots within a couple of days where it was my aces versus their aces, and both times mine backdoored a flush.

Jim get this "one buy-in to play my best" crap out of your head. Even if you play your best and get it in with top set and they have a few draws you still might lose, then you'll be busto and miserable. Dude, you finally have some frick'n money. Play 50c/$1 and learn how to play properly. I actually think you should grind 25/50c for 30k hands with your $2k roll.

Quite probably! That would take me about 10 months, though, the amount of hands I play at the moment, single-tabling for short bursts.

But yes, you're right. I think a fortnight of $0.50/$1 shouldn't be impossible. That's what I should try to do. But $1/$2 is very tempting - allowed?

Re: LuckyJimm - Omaha pro - silences the doubters!

Jim stick with 50c/$1 for a full fortnight minimum. I will watch your results with interest. Don't just fall into old habits. A stop loss of 3 buy ins. In fact make a stop loss of 2 buy ins. You tilt, lose your mind and move up. Let's see how you go. If you manage to make money, don't move up. Buy yourself some new clothes and stuff, get a gym membership. You will be a happier person and you won't be broke. Success and discipline breeds more of the same.

It's my plea to improve your quality of life. Please follow it.

It is not hard to make $50 US an hour at 50c/$1 long-run if you actually become good.

Jim don't make me think you're a lost cause.

Actually having and making money feels much better than being broke doesn't it? Stick with it and there may be hope yet.

Btw what site are you playing on?

Re: LuckyJimm - Omaha pro - silences the doubters!

I play on iPoker. My username is a closely-guarded secret.

Yes, you're right. I'd be happier playing $1/$2, but the $0.50/$1 is so soft.

I am very sensitive to playing on the right tables.

I deposited £50 a couple of hours ago and sat at a $1/$2 table where it was clear I was being outplayed.

I left with two thirds of my money and moved down to $0.50/$1. I did well, and have £100 in my account on top of £150 withdrawn.

So at worst I'll be up £100, at best £200 or more.

All your recent talk about "scores" and "wins" and this constant deposit-withdrawal cycle irks me. It seems like you are actually learning some things from your time on 2+2 (using PT, keeping records) but not others (bankroll management, the psychology of winning players).

If you actually have some poker skills it just seems stupid not to set yourself some rigid BR management rules (when I have x $ I play x limits, if I fall to x $ I drop back to x limit). It's just so basic and easy to follow, and the fact you can follow other poker-related advice means your inability to do this shouldn't be able to be explained away by simply being an undisciplined degen.

Of course you're right. I need to get used to having money in my online poker account, without having to be playing. If I can't leave money into my account then I'll never be able to jump into a good game, as I'm always waiting for a withdrawal to come through and that governs when I can play.

And I need to get used to having money in my bank account, without having to deposit it online. I might have won this week, but it's still pretty sick that the other day I deposited online all £870 I had available to me.

And I really must stop myself from going up to 2/4 as I don't have the money for it. It's perfectly possible to make a good score at 0.50/1. But 1/2 is so tempting. I will not go any higher than this, though!

Jim you'll go bust. It might not be tomorrow, it might not be next week, but you'll piss it away because you'll never change. People like you don't change. You're winning a bunch of races at the moment. That's about it right now. You'll keep pushing your luck playing above your head until you lose 5k or so in an hour of madness. You'll have a bad morning, then play catch up. Or you'll have another couple days of huge wins and think you've got it all figured out and take your shot and the high limits. You'll lose a buy in then feverishly try to get it back.

I used to be a luckyjimm hater, mostly just to be on the bandwagon, but after reading his blog I'm a luckyjimm lover.
