Global warming ? Could be but i doubt it. And even if ; there is no reason to believe that we are responsible for it. Just a random thing to happen every couple thousand years. And who cares anyway ? Neither you or anybody else will live long enough to be witness of the world going down. Enjoy live.

You are just very stupid. Global warming is proven and that we contribut a lot to the climate change is proven to.

Re: Never would have imagined this. Dicaprio/Brunson team

Most of the posters here are too young to remember the fact that 30 years ago, there was a scientific consensus that a new ice age was coming (caused by humans shockingly enough), and we were all going to die. 30 years later, there is now a scientific consensus that the earth is going to boil (caused once again by humans shockingly enough), and that we are all going to die.
The people who say nobody in the scientific community disagrees with this are the kool-aid drinkers, and the people who say humans have absolutely no impact on the environment just aren't very smart. While there is plenty of debate in the scientific community about global warming and just how much we contribute to the cause (and yes folks, many scientists do disagree. Don't drink what Alpha Al is selling you), nobody can realistically argue we as humans don't contribute at least slightly to the problem.

The simple fact of the matter is the amount of time we are living in is completely meaningless from an environmental perspective. It is extremely arrogant and self centered to believe that we are the sole cause for what occurs on earth. To believe we are the sole cause for the current warming of the planet means you need to discredit all the evidence and proof of prior periods of cooling and warming on this planet that have happened for millions of years before we got here and will continue to happen for millions of years once we burn out. The earth has been covered in ice before, and evidence taken from ice plugs in the arctic have proven the earth has been far warmer than it is now.

Until archeologists begin pulling Cadillac Escalades and Hummers from the ground, don't tell me we are the sole cause of what is happening with our planet. The truth is somewhere inbetween, and mindlessly following what you believe and name calling those who disagree do nothing for your case.

This is total rubbish. There was some speculation about it and considerable media coverage. However it was never anything remotely close to a scientific consensus, it was a small minority position. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling

Surprisingly enough the people who have spent their entire professional careers studying the climate are well aware that the earth goes through periods of warming and cooling.

Your argument is logically flawed. The earth has gone through periods of warming and cooling; that doesn't imply that the current warming is or is not primarily driven by human activity. To determine that requires a level of knowledge that no-one here possesses.

NickyC - A few questions:

What percentage of scientists believe that the earth is going to boil?

Do you realise that we all are going to die?

When was the earth covered in ice?

Why would an archologist need to pull Escalades and Hummers from the ground when they could just get one from a car dealer?

In the 60's the coming ice age was taught as fact in our science classes, along with "duck and cover" as a way to survive Russia's imminent nuclear strike.

It is not the debate of global warming , but the lack of consensus on the issue that arouses my spidey senses. The bonus carbon tax credit/transfer payment initiatives should have anyone over 45 on alert.

The earth was not covered in ice. The ice sheets had expanded due to colder temperatures, but they did not cover the earth. On the east coast of the US it reached New York City, which wasn't called New York City at the time.

This is seriously stupid. Firstly, sample size. Second, average global temperate rises are not the same thing as specific temperature rises in one place. Third, smog is not what causes global warming.

I was under the impression that the earth has frozen over in the past. Obviously not since mankind was around though, and way before dinosaurs.

I had remembered this from school because we went on field trips to see where the glacial movement had left marks on rocks. If I remember correctly you can see it in Central Park ( NY ). But I checked my facts before I originally posted.

Sciolist is correct, at one point the earth was effectively covered in ice. Reid, you are thinking of the last ice age. This was considerably longer ago than that, hundreds of millions of years rather than hundreds of thousands.

ok, so the climate is changing. global climate shifts have been occuring before man can remember. man should concentrate more efforts on moving to outer space. we are ALL sitting ducks on spaceship earth............

*Bump* Because this POS movie blows.

"His environmental documentary, “The 11th Hour,” has been a total bust at the box office. After 18 days in release, the film has grossed only $417,913 from ticket sales. The 90-minute snore-fest is playing on 111 screens this week, but that number is likely to be reduced this Friday. The film will be sent to DVD heaven after that.

I hesitated to say before “11th Hour” actually opened how mind-numbingly dull it was for fear that I would ruin it for those interested in the subject of global warming. But at Cannes, when the film by Nadia Conners and Leila Conners Petersen was shown to journalists, nearly the entire room fell asleep. A Russian filmmaker told us afterward that she was the only person in the room who was awake at one point."
