Re: Official Limit-->NL Forum No Content Thread!

I just got some money in stars so I'm finally getting started with NL.

Fired up some .5/1 tables tonight...after 1 hour I have

-gotten it in pf with QQ vs. AK and lost
-gotten stacked by 44. vs. my AK on an A4x board in pf 3 bet pot (44 called off 1/3 his stack before the flop)
-got it in on the turn with a flush, lost to rivered fh

Its weird, i feel a very different kind of tilt feeling than
I do when I lose some pots in limit...

KK - He raised, I reraised and he pushed - Surely he has AA

That is the argument that is usually given for those who want to fold KK pre-flop.

Well, maybe this hand will be a lesson to all the folders.

Re: i got me a boat

St tropez is paradise. I didnt know the world was such a beautifull place. When I walked out of my plane I already felt the soft weather, the air is really clean and feels allot better than the netherlands where the weather is more suffocated(I hope this is the right word). Than going with a car to the mobile home you watch your eyes out, it felt unreal. The mounthans and view over sea is so beatifull I coudnt believe my eyes. Also on the road you will see ferrari's, lambo's, porche's(one day we counted 40 porches in one day), austin martins etc drive around allot.

It is hard to explain and when showing pictures of the view you will think its ok but when you see it irl its allot different esp with the weather. I am abit sensitive for the sun and was scared I would be burned the whole holiday but I only got burned the first day(as did my friends) and could walk around in the hot sun the other days. When waking up its mostly around 26 degrees and midday around 30-35. But the weather doesnt feel hot it feels comfertable. I could write some more but I hope im not boring anyone Anyway I would recomment st. tropez in france to anyone!

that might have been sarcastic given the result, and i'm sorry to inject some strategy into an LC thread, but i'm still very uncomfortable w/ my NL game, and i'm actually curious about the play:

yeah, checking twice there is probably bad, and something i pretty much never do (i generally hate slowplaying). it felt right here, though. reason is, if he has OCs, there's no value in a bet when i can let him bluff or spike a pair. the only value i'm missing is from picked up FDs, but he'll bet those often anyways (and w/ the board pairing, i'm not concerned about free cards). and if he's trying to trap me w/ a big hand, well, you see what happens.

please tell me if my thought process is bad though. in limit i bet the turn 100% of the time, because people never fold A high anyways. not sure if i should be doing it in NL too

Grunch 08-05-2007 07:35 PM

Re: KK - He raised, I reraised and he pushed - Surely he has AA

It wasn't sarcastic. You were slowplaying in order to induce a bluff from air, but there are two other situations you should be more concerned about. One, if the opponent has a hand like 66 or 88 they have draws to beat you. And two, the opponent will sometimes have a strong hand, strong enough for them to be willing to back it up with a good chunk of thier chips. By inducing a bluff you are focused on tiny wins. If you focus on the bigger wins, you'll make more over the long haul.

Re: KK - He raised, I reraised and he pushed - Surely he has AA

I don't like nitting up my NC thread, but we'd really like 88 and 66 to "hit" against our boat. They're drawing dead right now. However, this point is the important one:

Yeah youre right, I ignored the fact that we improved. Regradless, even if you are not giving free cards to beat you slowplaying is normally less +EV than valubetting because you win more from worse hands calling big bets than air hands making small bluffs.

either raise more or coldcall (or limp) less preflop, that gap b/w VPIP and PFR is too big. Be a lot more aggressive on the flop (bet/raise more and call less) and a bit more aggro on turn and river. Go to showdown less.

377 hands isnt really enough to for that stat to matter, but 27 is def too high for a long term WTSD @ 6max, but over that sample you probably made lots of hands w/ showdown value.

There is some reason to this madness. You had not been repopping me yet at all. With how much I was raising Button/CO, I knew you were going to raise me sooner or later, with or without a hand. I wanted to set up the flow of the tables so that you would not be 3betting me at will. I wanted you to feel that if you were going to 3bet me, you're going to have deal with fireworks. It's an image I'm experimenting with - sorry you had to be the victim.

And I really should've check-folded the river when you rivered that flush.
