Re: Great/terrible movies
alien vs. predator.
boa vs. python. When any animal either terrestrial or not is pitted against another, it makes for great cinema. |

bump just watched The Monster Squad for the first time in years. the movie is awesome for the following (spoilers): none of the actors' careers have gone anywhere. if you look them up on imdb, like the last thing one guy did was an ep of Mr. Belvedere in '89. Sean gets a message from his mom. "Mr. Alucard called - interested in the journal you found." Sean takes out a notepad and starts writing down the name. His hands begin to tremble as he unscrambles the letters and he writes "Dracula." So basically Dracula called up this kid, couldn't think of a clever fake name, so just left his name backwards and no way to contact him. the squad goes to a mysterious old man's house to elicit his help. he invites them in. the next shot is the old man holding a knife saying, "boys, your time is almost up!" then the camera zooms out to show the boys enjoying delicious pie. the old man cuts a slice and says, "it's your last chance for pie!" who the [censored] talks like that when offering their guests pie? the squad has successfully retrieved the amulet from Dracula's lair, but the old vampire is in hot pursuit! the squad heads to their rallying point at the church where they will perform the ceremony to defeat evil. Dracula breaks off pursuit to go chuck a block of dynamite into their clubhouse. then he goes to battle them at the church. he didn't blow up their clubhouse for any reason, just to be a dick or something. [/ QUOTE ] In crayon... Dear Army Guys, Come quick. There are monsters. Love, Eugene Awesome movie that is up on youtube, google it. |

Any Adam Sandler comedy. [/ QUOTE ] Horrible. Some of those are just funny. Click is awesome. Some are just horribly unfunny, and not in a way that makes them great (Little Nicky). |
Re: Great/terrible movies
Click is OK at best, and not a true Sandler comedy as it wasn't written by Adam and Tim Herlihy with roles going to five certain actors. Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison and Little Nicky to be more specific on my previous blanket statement. Arguably The Waterboy is also in this list.

big trouble in little china is a superb addition to this list. [/ QUOTE ] God I hate threads like this because of posts like this. Here's some more good additions: Raiders of the Lost Ark The Goonies Gremlins Ghostbusters Beverly Hills Cop The Fugitive Speed Die Hard Enter the Dragon Oh wait, sorry I was mistaken. Those are all just good entertaining, well-made popcorn movies like Big Trouble in Little China. Sheesh. Swede was right. Best suggestion so far is Gymkata. Bloodsport also acceptable. |

Oh wait, sorry I was mistaken. Those are all just good entertaining, well-made popcorn movies like Big Trouble in Little China. . . . Swede was right. Best suggestion so far is Gymkata. Bloodsport also acceptable. [/ QUOTE ] Bloodsport seems to me like it could fit in pretty well with the movies you listed. I realize that approximately .002% of humanity will agree with me on this one, but I feel this way about Gladiator. I definitely enjoyed it and would watch again, but something about the whole enterprise feels very off to me upon repeat viewings. And yes, obviously the filmmaking is skilled and well-executed, which I'm sure is not the case in Gymkata. There is still some sense in which Gladiator seems to me to be a bad movie, but I enjoy it anyway. |
Re: Great/terrible movies
Before you get trashed by the legions of Gladiator fans here put me in the .002%. It is a good movie that I liked better the first time when it was called Braveheart. No way is it close to best picture material. Anyhow, doesn't really fit the Great/terrible criteria.

worst movie ever made hands down 28 days later /thread [/ QUOTE ] I am by no means an expert, but: A: I think you misread the subject. B: I am pretty sure there are worse movies than 28 days later. 28 Weeks Later for instance. |

Wow, I was about to kill Private Joker before I finished reading his post...
Waterworld was a good pick. Mine would be those volcano movies: Dante's Peak and Volcano. |
