Re: Official NHL 2006-07 Regular Season Thread
The PHB comment is possibly valid, as I am not to up to date on Hockey, nor do i follow it anywhere near as closely as baseball. I do know that Shanahan scored over 40 goals last year, so he can't be too done just yet.
[ QUOTE ] Why are the Oilers saying hi? [/ QUOTE ] This was in reference to Summers(I think it was him) comment that they will make the playoffs, but are far from cup contenders. Just making the playoffs automatically makes you cup contenders. |

Re: Official NHL 2006-07 Regular Season Thread
Fedor Tyutin is going to improve, and Karel Rachunek is an upgrade on Tom Poti. Aaron Ward should help out as well. While the Rangers defense isn't that good, Lundqvist makes up the difference - he's a top five goalie in the league.
The 'Canes and Sabres both advanced deep into the playoffs without anything resembling a #1 defender - the Rangers have a similar defense. While I think Marek Malik sucks (and Roszival too) - they played fairly decent last season. |

Will be fun to see what Vancouver can do with a good goalie for a change. [/ QUOTE ] Get him shelled nightly. Their blueline is highly suspect, they have 1 decent scoring line, and their early schedule (9 out their first 11 are on the road) is absolutely brutal. |
Re: Official NHL 2006-07 Regular Season Thread
rangers biggest weakness is at center. nylander is ok at #1, but they are lost after that.

Send someone up to Michgan to break his legs if he doesn't stop with that college crap. [/ QUOTE ] With the Kings lineup, I'm afraid Johnson will stay at Mich. for 2 years if not 3 years. If he's as good as they say, he'll be worth the wait. |

CDN teams that miss playoffs Toronto and Vancouver and possibly montreal.
Most improved Calgary. Edmonton may be weak on defense but will score a ton. Ottowa not as good as before |

Now that the Pens have a new owner, I can officially cheer for them again. Not expecting much, but it will be fun to watch all the young guys.
Stall has looked pretty solid for the first 2 periods, Crosby looks like he hasn't missed a beat, Fleury is having a GREAT game and word is Malkin will be back within the week. |

Has anybody bought the EA or 2k video game this year? I'm interested in getting one and would like to hear some reviews; thanks.

It's only the 2nd intermission, but the 15 year 67 million dollar goalie has been shelled for 6 goals on 32 shots
Wonder how many are actually his fault. God, what a disaster this season is going to be on the Island. I don't live on LI, but I'm planning on catching a few games in Montreal and or Buffalo. If I do go, it's looking like I'm going to have to wear a paper bag over my head. |

woohooo....Blues get a goal with 5.6 seconds left in the third to salvage a point
they lost in the OT of course promising first game against a solid Cup contender |

It was horrible... you could have summarized it with "12 rounds of players shooting from 10 feet away without a deke. Finally one slips through." That had to be the worst shootout ever from the shooters. The goalies didn't do anything but stay in the center of the net to make the saves. Anyways, Sharks WILL win the cup. Nabokov looks so good. Vlasic (Who's 19 years old!) looks like he can be a top pairing d-man RIGHT NOW. He's been absolutely solid on d and great on the PP. He also plays on the PK... amazing. He looks like he's 12. Vlasic > Bourdon. I don't get why people rave about Bourdon when he was embarressed three times vs the Sharks in preseason. Vlasic is shutting down everyone. |

They had decided to have Opening Night II here because the first one sold out before the general public could get tix. The first banner raising was cool, but I stayed in the bar until the puck drop for the second one. There's only so many times one can clap wildly for the frigging back-up equipment manager. Devils kicked our arses. I was happy because I got to sit behind Brodeur twice--awesome guy! The Canes played like the Chiefs (and continued to do so yesterday against Washington) and appear to be working off a summer of partying, but I'm just stoked that hockey is back. The bad thing is that I finally bought Center Ice and am getting in nooooo poker. Nice to see the western teams play--Sharks are looking good. |

Brodeur may have been inconsistent in some games last year due to being hurt some in the beginning of the season and because of playing so many games. Comparing Lundqvist to Brodeur is crazy. [/ QUOTE ] Pegging Lundqvist as inconsistent is crazier. The only reason I chose Brodeur is because I know you are a Devils fan. You can choose almost any goalie in the league and I bet the stats are similiar. Also those are two of the WORST excuses that you could possibly make up. Goalies have bad games. It's not necessarily because of playing time or injury, they just have bad games. |
Re: Official NHL 2006-07 Regular Season Thread
Lundqvist had one good year. Comparing him to Brodeur is ridiculous. The stats over one season for a goalie mean very little. I would not put him in the top 50% of goaltenders just because he's had one good season. There's no way to tell how he'll play this season. He could be good again, or he could be a scrub.
|
Re: Official NHL 2006-07 Regular Season Thread
Zurvan, I agree. Labeling Lundqvist as inexperienced, young, unproven, etc. are fine with me. Labeling him as inconsistent is not. This is where I had issue with Mantooth's comment. If I had one word to describe Lundqvist it would actually be: consistent.

Someone please explain the scheduling of the NHL for me. The Devils play @ Dallas on Saturday. Their next game isn't until Thursday at home against Toronto. What is this about?
