I think this issue is a bit closer than we're making it out to be, but I'd probably just eat the cost of the glasses and make my mom cook me some tasty Korean food.

i would expect my parents to offer to pay. i would never ask them to. given your mom offered, i would accept. given your mom offered, your dad now refusing is bizarre.

This is the correct answer in any normal parent-child relationship.

I think its weird that they dont pay up. You did them a favor.

Re: Who\'s right? (Dispute with my dad)

You waited 3 months?
You act like because you "suffered" without glasses your parents owe you something.

Your mom offered to pay, get that money right away or forget it.

Re: Who\'s right? (Dispute with my dad)

Ok, we all have/had parents, so let's not be suprised by the Mom is a "softy" and said yes and Dad is "hard-nosed" and said no. This good mom/bad dad (or vice-versa) is in almost every family.

Just move on. It's only a few bucks and not worth causing grief between you and your old man, or causing your Mom and Dad to have a disagreement about it.

I guarantee when they pass on this will seem trivial.

Also, they spent big bucks raising you, so there is no way you are going to end up not looking like a tool by pushing this further.

Re: Who\'s right? (Dispute with my dad)

I don't think this is obvious at all. You should seriously consider taking legal action against your parents.
Your mother instantly told you that they would pay for it.
Your father later declined. They are confusing you.
This should be settled in a court of law.

I can't imagine this ever being an issue with my parents, and they've beaten me unconscious. That's [censored] up dude.

I dont know, they made the decision to bring me into this god forsaken world, and it's their job as a parent to take care of me,. Saying "well look at all the stuff he's done for you!" is stupid imo. I appreciate what my parents have done for me, of course, but in all reality it's their job to do that. Just like it'll be my job when I have kids to provide for my children, and not let them know everytime I have to spend a buck, or take time out of my day on their behalf.

LOL, what I just said reminded me of this (starts at 2:16)

Also, that excuse in the frame of the OP is stupid also. The OP did his parents a favor, and his glasses got owned. He's very well within the scope of reality to demand reimbursement for them.

I would say your parents are wrong... for going on a mission to Peru.

Only 1 play left. Keep asking until you get the 90 from him. Then light it on fire and throw it into the air and say nah i changed my mind you keep it.

Re: Who\'s right? (Dispute with my dad)

Every time you see him, start conversations with "Praise the Lord, for he hath delivered unto me a man unable to defeat a pair of cheap glasses."

He will pay up soon.

Yeah, me too. I just love the fact that your parents went on a mission to Peru where people are too poor to have a fraction of what we have in America, and then came home to hear their spoiled American son bitching to them about a pair of glasses that were ruined by his own neglect. Good odds your Dad isn't paying you because he's ashamed to have raised you.

Re: Who\'s right? (Dispute with my dad)

Easy, you pay. No need to argue. Just think twice before doing them a favor next time. Who expects some mangy mutt to eat glasses?

Don't be a dick now. Collect funds + interest at time of second parent's death.

The righteous indignation in this thread is stunning. All he did was get offered new glasses and expect his parents to make good on their promise. The OP is obviously initially expect new glasses.

Re: Who\'s right? (Dispute with my dad)

Wow this thread is full of retards. The parents should absolutely pay, 100%. Their dog destroyed OP's property. $90 is about as cheap as glasses get.

That said, you can't really demand to be paid. You can ask, suggest, and prod, and if you don't get paid, no more doggie sitting favors EVAR.

if he's in his early 30s, just pay for it. If you were like 20 or something i think the parents should pay for it because itd be more likely that you were a poor college student.

If it had been my parents, they would have paid even if I told them not to.

But if your dad says he won't, then turn the over cheek and just pay.
