just read on the corvette forum that his body was found. He died of exposure

[/ QUOTE ]

WOW?! Can you elaborate please? Maybe a link.

[Edited: This hurts because I was following this and was hoping he would turn up unharmed.]

It is not something that you are just like, "He is dead. Holla."

I am deeply saddened to report that I have received a call from the Mohave County Sheriff's Department reporting that they have found the body of Michael Holt (welladjusted).

At this time it appears that Michael succumbed to exposure.

I have contacted his family, and I ask that all members say a prayer that God brings them comfort and peace during this tragic time.

I once again thank all of you for your support, assistance, prayers, and concern for Michael, Abby, his mother Shirley, and father Tom.

Terrible if true. Seems odd that the admin of a Corvette message board gets the call from the Sheriff's dept. and is the one to "have contacted the family" but maybe there's an explanation for that.

Anyway, if true, it will probably show up in today's MCSO press release: here

i dont know this guys history but its very irresponsible to go out there without some basic supplies and survival skills. like bring a gallon of water if youre gonna go offroading 80m from civilization. i wouldnt rule out foul play actually now that i think about that.

regardless, very sad.

I was also following this and this is very sad and I offer my condolences etc.....does anybody know why he drove to arizona with only his wallet? is it all speculation at this point? Why didnt anybody pick him up? What kind of rental car was he driving and how did it break down?

Very sad. I followed the Corvette forum and I feel for them all and any here that knew him personally.

I live very close to where he was found and know the sheriff personally. The Arizona heat/sun is no joke and one should never, ever go out exploring or 4 wheeling without leaving detailed info on where you're going, IF you choose to go alone.

My condolences to his family and loved ones.

Re: PLEASE HELP Missing Person from the forum

I was hoping he was on a bender partying and stuff but it didn't sound good from the start. Was he a regular off roader? It seems insane to go out in that desert by yourself

PokeReader 07-07-2007 04:12 PM

Re: PLEASE HELP Missing Person from the forum

Apparently Mike was very fond of off-roading. The cell phone is really incidentaly, as it would not have worked in that area. His car broke down very far from a main road or any residence or business. He made the decision to leave the car and try to hike out, and died of exposure trying to walk out.

I agree that it is always wise when going somewhere like this to tell someone where you are going, and if you bring a phone they will be more able to locate you. Sadly, Mike did not think of this as anything more than a drive. He had driven in this desert area alot, but clearly did not take as much safety precautions as one might hope.

The corvette board is doing a memorial for him, if anyone is interested,

Damn poor guy.
For those of you that regularly go out far from civilization you should look into getting a satellite phonewikipedia.org. Not to blame the victim but it really does pay to be prepared in remote parts of the world.

I also hope they rule out foul play.

Thoughts go out to his family.

a hand-held CB is much cheaper than a sat-phone (they run about $50 to $100), and probably more helpful for this type of situation. I always have one in my car when I go road-tripping.

Of course this isn't to pile on the guy that died, but just to help people think of the different scenarios and what you can do to be safe.

this of all times is the worst to go off into the desert unprepared. its got to be like 125+ in the middle of the day out there.
