UK bookies are the most hated in the world because they offer the absolute worst value on the planet.

Vexel,

Is betting just the soft side of an arb unethical?

Oh and thats opposed to US bookies, oh thats right there arent any except for those value laden books in Vegas.

And you dont have a clue, the UK bookies are juicy..

Im still getting even money on wongs, are you?

Hedgie43 as long as you take some kind of risk its ethical.

One minute asking for help prepping for your interview. Next minute pontificating from a lofty perch while calling others kids, losers, and thieves. I'd say you are probably a young guy who hasn't yet had the [censored] edges worn off by life experience. Or maybe you're just a douchebag. Probably both.

That's why Betfair has managed to take the lion's share of the market in short shrift despite charging the average customer 5% on top of 1% markets.

The only reason that UK bookies can be good is because they haven't got a clue how to set lines on some sports. The percentages they work to are bordering on criminal, and if you have any sympathy for them at all, then it's clear you got that odds compiling job.

As for your ethics, you didn't answer the question. If a book goes -110 and takes balanced action on either side, why isn't it classed as stealing?

Also, if I take +111 at one side, and -110 at another, who am I stealing from exactly?

I suggest you think this through a bit more sensibly, you haven't stated one fact yet and you've certainly talked a lot of tripe.

hedgie43 10-12-2007 05:36 PM

Re: What happened to the arb threads?

Why is it unethical to make a "risk-free" profit? Both books are offering you a line, from which they are taking vig.

Re: What happened to the arb threads?

Im sorry lori you have misunderstood me, i am trying to help you. You shouldnt do it its bad business for youself and the book involved. All it will do is reduce your ability to get a bet, that could be much more ev than a small arb.

as for betfair its destroying punting on a number major sports, for one tennis.

And if you lived in the UK youd know we're in the middle of a major court case that is centered around people using betfair to fix horse races, that im sure when is settled will have some ramifications for the industry, in the UK.

And its a fact that im getting even money on wongs.

It depends on the book. Some books move their lines aggressively so that one max bet will eliminate the opportunity. Other books will continue to hang stale lines even after several max bets. These books are the real targets.

I've seen MLB and soccer and etc and horse arbs last for days.

Re: What happened to the arb threads?

lori i think you misunderstood me I've been arbing a lot. I never see these mysterious two day long arbs most of mine last seconds not minutes. I saw one boxing arb last two days this summer other then that I haven't seen much.

I have a lot of outs, real-time odds service, an arb alert service, the whole thing. I'm not a veteran at this but most of what I see goes very fast.

Also, a warning to all, just ignore anything at 5dimes over 2-3% or so I've had a few bets canceled lately they have routinely been posting lines backwards

If you're arbing college football halftimes or something then yes I'd agree. Otherwise you're not looking hard enough and the thread would likely help you.

Example from the past (LAD to win division)

Edit: That was held for at least 12 hours looking at those time stamps, and I remember it was at least another day on top, but I have no proof of that.

Interesting. I recognize I have a lot to learn at this. I think IRC would be awesome. Even though I remain skeptical that sharing arbs of any significance is pretty hard i'd love to learn from more experienced people and I'm more then willing to share what i can.

Of course nobody's asking you to post it before you've had your share of it, and that's often enough to kill one, but sometimes the books are just willing, for whatever reason, to leave it up.

I am down for an IRC chan (again), as long as there is some sort of moderation and exclusivity to it. Freeloaders should be banished quickly, and the group is less productive as a whole with more than 7-10 people involved anyway.

If someone wants to send me info or explain to me how to set it up, I'll do it.

Pinny: o4.5 -114

Edit: Just saw the $50 limit on Pinny, so I just maxed out the VIP side ($300 limit).

homer is finished with that kinda stuff... i have no idea about how to password protect the room or something to have limited access... if you leave it wide open just like an arb thread, the ratio of leechers to contributors is like tenfold and the chan will be useless

Re: What happened to the arb threads?

an irc channel can be secured easily and is much more stable then a MSN or AIM chat room. I don't have time for the next few days but someone must have the time to download and compile a channel bot set up an ops list etc. #2p2sb or something it doesn't really matter
