What you need to also consider is whether you will be satisfied with the xbox/tv on a 30 inch since you are used to a 42". Downgrading in size could be tough once you are used to watching the larger screen.

two "different" users, both of whom are checking out 30 inch gateway monitors as a result of roommates leaving in a week with their 42 inch plasmas.

It was really odd for me, because those were threads I read back-to-back.
