$50NL..you say people will stack off with top and middle pair like thats a bad idea....why is that?

$100NL...you say players are more hesitant to stack off but that you should do it with TPTK

These two statements contradict each other drastically. Maybe you meant top OR middle pair in the $50NL game? That would make sense.

Yes obviously if he wanted to say top two pair he'd say top two pair.

Sorry, I'll revise it as I was unclear. The first statement should read "top or middle pair", as you said. I'm not saying that those 50nl donks are so dumb for getting it in with K7 on K73 rainbow.

The second statement should read "more hesitant than 50nl players, yet still fairly maniacal".

Sorry for the mix-up, I'll change both right away. I did make this post without really looking for small errors like this but thank you for pointing this out.

Interesting read.

When did you start out with NL50 and in what timeframe did this evolution take place?

I was doing all sorts of things for a while but really took off this summer, beating 200pl for an extremely good clip. Myself and many others constantly emailed UB asking for mid-stakes HU games, 400nl-1000nl. A few weeks later, these tables were put in. I sort of took a shot at 400nl, had a tough time adjusting, but eventually got the hang of it and never looked back.

Re: Climbing the Levels: How Players Evolve, 50nl-5000nl

Why is good metagame required at higher levels?

From what I understand, metagame in practice means making a non-optimal move for a particular hand in order to make (a) future hand(s) more profitable.

But surely you could beat your opponents without doing that as long as you are mathematically and psychologically superior.

And what is the point of giving away EV to create an image anyway when you can just play "the opposite" of the image you get for free?

Re: Climbing the Levels: How Players Evolve, 50nl-5000nl

You can't get away without metagame, because the differences in edges are getting smaller and smaller the higher you go, you will not be more superior in HU theory and/or psychology. Metagame is a must to outplay an opponents at higher levels.
BTW, Bryce(the God of Limit HU) wrote a nice article about Fluid and Persistent Edges, check it out.
