Given the same skill advantage in both formats, a winning player should win more per tournament at MTTs than STTs.

Tournaments are about finding edges and you'll find more edges over the course of several hours against dozens of fish than you will in one hour versus just a handful of them. Consequently, if you're a winning player you'll win more per MTT than STT, on average.

To answer the question in the subject line,

A player would be better (i.e. make more money) at MTTs than STTs if he refused to pass up on small edges, especially early on, and always played for the win.

He would be better at STTs if he avoided close situations early on. In general, he would also have a better understanding of ICM, pushbot play, and "the GAP" in bubble situations.

In addition to what everyone else said, MTTs have much higher potential ROIs. A 30% ROI in SNGs is incredible, while it is mediocre in MTTs.

[/ QUOTE ]Well, it really comes down to hourly rate and volume... 30% roi in $6.5 turbo STTs might be equal to 300% in $10 MTTs in terms of $/hr. That said, I'd rather be a telemarketer than make a living playing $6.5 stts.

play 1000 stt's and 5000 MTT's and find a way to get your $/hour stat

Why would someone be a better pitcher than a home run derby hitter?

[/ QUOTE ]Because he's better at playing shallow stacks than deep?
