768kbps is more than enough for poker. You probably won't be very happy with your file download speeds, though.

Yeah it would work for poker, however I would hate it for everything else.

No, I don't know these things. I still don't understand why you would want to work with such small numbers. I am pretty sure that OP is about wireless as well. I related my experiences with it.

I don't use windows wireless.

Ignore me?

I won't elaborate any further so I won't make an ox of myself. But I have several questions.

What does dial-up rate? As band-width heavy as FTP is, I cannot four-table without problems. This seems to be a common complaint in the zoo, and I suspect it is from people who are not using the best hardware and software. It is not uncommon for people to disconnect at various poker sites, even single-tabling. I don't see the point in skating by.

I play Heads up for a living, and there has been several occasions that I won the tournament because someone disconnected. Now if you compare what they loss because of that to what they could have saved, ordering the best internet would have paid for itself. I imagine that this happens to these people more than once a month. That is one tabling, with one other person. There is no reason to be running minimal ware when people have these problems. Now add three or more tables with each table having 8 opponents, and I can't help think that this gets messy.

Obviously, if the internet speed has nothing to do with how well the software responds to your computer, then I rescind all of my fears.

Yeah, 'cause you're talking about stuff that doesn't relate to the question

Dial-up internet access these days is almost certainly 56k access.

For an explanation of what this means, go to wikipedia.

I don't doubt this.

Most of the problems that people face with massively-multitabling having lots of lag is likely to be CPU lag.

In short, the information can get clogged at a variety of bottlenecks.

Ok. Just for whoever is interested:

I monitored a recent 4 table session at Pokerstars (6 max) for about an hour and here are some statistics:

Average transfer/download rate was 2.6 kB/second.

On a good modem setup at 56Kbs you get about a 6.8 kB/second maximum transfer/download.

On a 768Kbs connection your transfer/download speed is about 825 kB/second. This is definitely more than enough to 4-table Pokerstars.

Does not compute.

Woah, yeah I was incorrect -- 768Kbs is about 96 kB/second

Kilobits versus Kilobytes
