a guy from the sydney morning herald I think picked the trifecta in order based on his picks in the morning paper.

OP's friend took that trifecta. He wouldn't have been quoted 110-1, he would have simply taken a 10000% dividend. The TAB sportsbet trifecta paid 1100 so yeah, that's where the $110,000 comes from.

Horrible bad beat.

In other news the trifecta paid $60,000 (for just a 100% dividend) in today's Emirates cup!
