I guess I way overtip. I feel bad when I don't tip after picking up the blinds + a couple limps. Anything more than a few bucks gets $1 and $100 or more is usually a redbird.
The other day I picked up a decent pot at $1/2 and meant to flip the dealer a redbird and accidentally tossed two. I tried to grab one back but it was out of reach, and I didn't want to say anything, so I just let it go.
I'll just consider it a deposit in the poker karma bank.

If you are not a regular then live poker is not how you make a living. It's a hobby or secondary income. A small tip on decent pots isn't gonna make or break your poker weekend.

I tip 1 dollar every hand I win except a few times when I just steal the blinds. Then I usually feel guilty and tip anyways.

I tip 1 dollar anytime a dealer is being abused by a player and acts professionally.

I tip 1 dollar anytime the dealer is exceptional at fills.

I tip 1 dollar anytiem the dealer gives me the time out of the time pot without me asking (I dont want this to become a time pot thread)

I tip 1 dollar if I like the dealer.

I tip the bathroom guy 10 dollars every week.

I tip the cashier 2 dollars.

Your job is a lot better than theirs.

I worked as a server/bartender for years, so I'm a good tipper. Those jobs suck and they are harder than most people realize.

I go to my "local" casino (1.5 hours away) a few times a year. I tip too much, but I don't mind. At least $1 per pot, sometimes $2 and $5 for big pots. The dealers always remember me and go out of their way to help me at the desk, etc. I consider tipping just part of live play. I believe in Karma, too.

Haven't left the casino down yet (knock wood), including paying tips, food, drink, and hotel.

i play 10/20 nl and tip like 1 dollar for larger pots, nothing for smaller pots. Sometimes 2 dollars for a monster pot.

I dont really feel bad for the poker dealers, they have a very sweet job. They get like $40 an hour for something that requires pretty minimal education. It really isnt that bad relative to some other jobs I can think of. Imagine working a toll booth.. those guys dont get tipped!

The high stakes poker players seem to tip a red chip when they take down a pot and those are a hell of a lot bigger pots than most of us are winning. I think I remember Phil Laak saying that he was tipping between $5-$100 depending on the size, but I only vaguely remember the episode so I'm not sure if that's 100% accurate.

I don't know that they have it that good. Maybe the best dealing jobs only.

Since we are talking karma and accounting, who else in the casino do people tip?

Brush
Janitors
Bathroom cleaners

did I miss some?

Not all of these apply everywhere, but one can see how generosity could get very costly.

If I thought a tip would make a dealer be anything but impartial, I would never tip that dealer.
