ya, after checking the turn you have to call the river. Checking the turn shows weakness, widening his range by a lot. If you bet the turn, then he pushes the river, depending on the amounts, you could find a fold as now an 8 is within a tighter range. Pushing into a guy that has bet twice shows a lot more strength than pushing into a guy that bet the flop then slowed right down on the turn.

how is this a dangerous flop?

river is instacall bc his range is way wider than an eight. ppl do this w/ any overpair and the fact, that this is a RR pot makes it an ez call.
