I'm not there, so I can't tell you, but I would be stunned if the Seminoles reversed course on buy-ins today. There was a big article (front page) on the situation in the Tribune. I read the actual print of it, so I don't have a link.

Edit: That's the Tampa Tribune. There was nothing memorable about poker in the article.

Everyone should stop holding their breath. There has been no indication anywhere that high-stakes poker is even part of the discussion. That just seems to be wishful thinking on the part of some posters here. The only poker that I can see that is being mentioned is the casino table variety like 3-card Poker, Pai Gow, stuff like that.

f rubio. I really am not sure which i am rooting for. If Crist makes the compact and it gets past rubio then that means blackjack, baccarat, las vegas slots and most likely higher poker since will be class 3 games and they already have poker. If the compact doesnt go through then the department of interior comes in and not sure what they will let happen. I have seen somewhere that they will only give class 3 slots. that might not be true and they might give more types of gambling than crist would. My main concern is that the poker buy ins go up over $100 and be more like real poker. which will most certainly happen if these other class 3 games come in. so im not sure which way i want it to happen. any thoughts?

My opinion is that the Seminoles read the Florida statute correctly in the first place. There is no limit on the buy in amount in the law, but because of the ongoing negotiations with the state, the Seminoles agreed to comply with the state's interpretation. I believe that if the negotiations with the state break down, the capped buy ins will disappear. If a compact is reached that doesn't address the poker buy in issue, I believe the capped buy ins will disappear. Finally, if no compact is reached and the DOI steps in, the capped buy ins will disappear.

What's really interesting is whether the DOI will allow other games. The IGRA says that Indian tribes can conduct whatever kind of gaming is allowed by the state in which they're located. Well, Florida now allows Class III gaming. Whether it's slots or craps, Class III is Class III.

Your opinion matches mine and is how the DOI has interpreted the law in the other states.

but one thing not mentioned in any of the other posts, while the state and local gov's have no power to stop the games if they are in the same class of gaming offered elsewhere in the state (IMO) they do have a bit of leverage. Mainly they do not have to supply power, sewer, road access etc. .. yeah its not likely, but possible as a barganing chip.
