Re: sharkscope

It lists it as a program. perhaps they mean it is prohibited if used in conjunction with script which makes it a program? has anyone had any problems with sharkscope and stars as far as them stepping in? saying anything via email?

also when did this change take place and any guess as to why?

Didn't know about this. I don't think there is any way for Stars to tell whether you have Sharkscope open in your browser, but then I could be mistaken. Any hardcore cheaters can easily run their programs on another machine, however, or if they need to run on the same machine, they can simply randomize the names they register with the OS. Not that I condone any of this, just questioning its enforceability.

Apparently they can and will. See the replies by Pokerstars Jeff in this thread:

So wait.... Pokerstars can track the websites I visit? Remind me to not open any barnyard porn while I've got the client open. Big Brother douchebags

They can also see if you play poker in underpants or less.

Also, don't put your finger in your nose.

Which raises a privacy issue, but I guess you have to agree to its terms before playing, and in general I think this is their only option in terms of effective security measures... still curious as to how they can technically track the IPs I visit however or whether SS is "in memory"...

Very, very lame by Pokerstars. I've had a lot of respect for their general respect for my privacy. Screen capping or searching my browser history is really stepping over the line, especially since it's just a silent addition. They really should send and email or note in their popup a change to the "banned" list.

I only use the free 5 searches a day, so I use sharkscope rarely, but I had no idea it was suddenly moved to the unacceptable software list.

I suppose you will get a warning of some sort the first time you get "caught".

About privacy: one of the arguments to introduce an opt-in policy for commercial databases was the privacy of their players, IIRC. And of course the poker client has to scan your memory, harddrive, browser windows, and whatnot, in order to detect bot-software and other programs which give an unfair advantage. That has been going on for a long time already. (And as it makes botting etc more difficult, it is a good thing IMO).
