Yes I know the rules of the game, I just wanted to know how much to bring to the table so I don't stick out by putting too much in front of me to start. I've never played 8/16 before because I'm from the east coast, but I figure 500 is a good amount.

As for answering my own 4/8 question, the reason why I put that is so I don't get a simple "all 4/8 players blow" answer. I'm more looking for the best room to play the game in, since most Vegas casinos spread it.

I buy in for 25BBs, and usually have at least one or two look at me with awe. (Not kidding.) $200 is right for 4/8.

The reason why everyone says it, is because it's, uh, TRUE? You'll rarely see a good player at these games, including me. You can easily figure out who has even a clue. They are the only one not limping in every pot.

You've gotten good advice here. Why don't you want to believe it?

money: have 30+ BB on you at all times when you sit in the game, but put out however much you want. I used to buy in for 100BB just to start with a huge stack for laughs. Trust me at 4/8 people look at you funny but they suck so bad that nothing you do will ever affect how they play.

Place: since the players all suck at all games in Vegas at the 4/8 level feel free to play whereever you want to explore. Wynn is very comfortable and almost always has a 4/8 game, Venetian is a great place to play when they can get a 4/8 game running (its hit or miss), Caesers is nice but has a sick rake, Bellagio is pointless for your limit but they spread it too, You will probably like MGM a lot, Planet Hollywood is very cool but I don't know if they get 4/8 spread too often, etc etc etc. Just get out here and play... where doesn't matter really.

There is a decent jump from 8/16 to 15/30. I come from the East Coast too, and find the LHE games in AC much juicier than in Vegas. The NLHE - LHE spread in Vegas is huge... the NL games seem to be way juicier than LHE games, relatively.

I've only played 8/16 in Vegas once (about a year ago, weekday evening at the Wynn), but that game was certainly anything but tough. It was a step up from the 4/8 in that most of the players actually had some idea how to play poker (meaning they knew enough to protect cards, not make string bets, etc., unlike many of the 4/8 players), but still an easily beatable game.

Thanks for the help guys, I think the game plan is to buy in for 30 bb's so I don't stick out. I will be for sure playing 8/16 at the Wynn and 4/8 at MGM.. I'm sure I'll drop in at a random 4/8 game here and there if I happen to be at a place that's spreading it.. Thanks again...

Just buy in for 2 racks at any of those games and you'll be fine: 4/8 $1 chips 2 racks=$200, 8/16 $2 chips 2 racks=$4oo etc. Makes it easy. Nobody will notice you have 2 racks in front of you compared to their always just buying in for a rack.

As everyone said buy in at 8/16 for $400 and any game should be pretty good at night and on weekends. Mid-Limit isn't so big in Vegas right now so it may be hard to find a full 8/16 game running during off times like weekdays and such.

If you want to play 4/8 I would play at the places where that is the first and lowest limit offered (Bellagio, Wynn Venetian) because those are the nicest rooms and you will likely find many bad players since that is the lowest offered.

Also if you normally beat 10/20 out East I would also try the 10/20 at Mirage and even look for donktastic loose 15/30 games at Bellagio and Wynn to try as well.
