Question: Is it true that when you buy a new computer you should leave it plugged in and on for like a week or whatever to detect any problems right away?

No. The factory should burn it in (stress test) to detect any faulty hardware. I don't think Dell does this but I could be talking out of my ass.

K cuz i left my dell on for like a night and a half...and i think it turned itself off or something...maybe it was just in sleep mode.

Whenever I get a new computer, or a new hard drive, I go to the HD vendors website and download the specific diagnostics program for that specific hard drive. I run the most extensive test just to assure myself that there is nothing wrong with the hard drive. Do it overnight before you go to bed because it can takes many, many hours.
