FWIW, before he won the ME, Greg raymer lived in CT, a ston'e throw from Foxwoods, where he played as often as his work schedule permitted.

Once he won the ME, he moved to NC. Seems no State income tax > proximity to B&M play.

Are you sure?

Seven states have no state income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. Two others, New Hampshire and Tennessee, tax only dividend and interest income.

Worst is still probably hawaii or some small island chain in South Pacific.

Doubt if you are ever 20 miles away from a good home game in Hawaii.

I mean, sure, if the millions are already sitting in my investment portfolio. The questions about NC's tax rate are duly noted.

Actually. If you are in hawaii, you have to be the world's biggest degen to play poker. Enjoy the fact you are in hawaii. OP was asking about B&M not home games. I am sure he can probably find some home games in nc.

Would be interesting to run a map program and find the town farthest from legit poker cardrooms. Sort of the way the Census finds the center of population.

Not sure if we're allowed to plug other sites, but if you go to the web site of a certain magazine for card player(s), you'll discover a googly map of the US that lists all known legal casinos.

Feeling your pain in NC. It seems like 10 hours in any direction by car or it is off to the airport for us tarheels.

Depending upon which part of the state you're in and if they pass table games outside of Charleston, WV on Saturday, you could be 4.5 hrs or so away (if you're in say Charlotte). Still not great but better than 12.

I hoping for it to pass so I'll only be about 2.5 hrs away. Though this is all assuming they end up running a good poker room and are able to spread mid-limit games (I don't play much no limit).

I tried this (I live in Salt Lake City) and it gave me Ute Mountain Casino in Colorado, which is ~290 miles away, yet there are 3 full service casinos in Wendover , NV. with poker rooms which are ~120 miles away.

Worst location in the US, and not just because of poker.

Just kidding. Your closest B&M cardrooms are in Atlantic City, southern Indiana, Tunica, and Florida (sort of). So, yes, very bad poker alignment.

Biloxi and even New Orleans should probably also be included in this list although they are a little bit farther.

Wheeling, WV is getting live-poker soon.
They are voting on it in some town in the southern part of WV sometime in the near future so that might be a few months away. But it's not a guarantee it will get approved.

In Tunica, especially weekends, I would meet quite a few out-of-towners.
Usually in for a couple days from Alabama or Atlanta. But I met a few from NC as well.
Seems a few NC'ers would make that road-trip for their live-poker fix.

Tunica is about 6+ hours from Atlanta.
About 4 hours from Nashville.

Biloxi is also about 6 hours from Atlanta I think.
