ha ha at the implication that the behavior in live poker-rooms is somehow mature.
The people in live poker-rooms get drunk and act like freaking idiots and this is when they aren't being completely rude and obnoxious and throwing their cards or chips and dropping f-bombs in front of little old-ladies, etc.

If not in agreement with my personal experience than just turn on the TV. Most televised tourneys feature some pretty awful behavior and it doesn't have to be just Hellmuth or Matusow to qualify.

Yea, the offer was a chip split -30k for 1st. My understanding is a pure chip split favors the big stacks, where as X% for the "chair" and 100-X% for "chips" favors small stacks the larger X is.

I'd have taken a pure chip split in a heartbeat.

Yeah, pure chip-split tends to do that is my understanding too.
This situation wasn't exactly and even chop but it was reasonably close:

Re: Chop chat from Sun.Million

why is it that a pure chip split favors big stacks? it makes some sense to me if there are multiple similary sized big stacks. but i would imagine if there is one clearly dominant stack, like in this past sunday million, it might be beneficial for the big stack to play it out due to bullying equity. if the stacks were 11M, 5M, 4M, 4M, 3M, the 11M could continually push around the shorter stacks who want to move up the significant pay ladder and pick up a lot of chips. yes? no?

Re: Chop chat from Sun.Million

i remember reading an ICM experiment on STTs that found that larger chip stacks were disadvantaged by it.

The survey was, broadly, this:

a) Look at chip stacks after x many hands in a STT

b) Look at EV on ICM ("chip split") at point (a)

c) Look at actual payouts

d) compare (b) and (c)

It found that big stacks did better than ICM expected, and small stacks did worse than ICM expected.

There may have been some inherent player biases involved too, as it:
a) involved 2p2'ers, who were more likely to have larger chip stacks

and

b) regardless of (a), larger chip stacks are inherently more likely to be held by better than average players ('cause that's a reasonably good definition of a better than average players)

(hopefully this compensates for my low content post earlier in the thread, and makes up for the genuinely funny comment by my abuser)

Re: Chop chat from Sun.Million

Small stacks individual chips are 'more valuable' than a larger stack's individual chips. The more chips you have the less each individual one is worth.

The winner of the tournament is essentially said to suffer a 'bad beat' according to Mason. He has ALL the chips, but doesn't get all the money, he only gets 20% or whatever.
