Re: I need to be humored...

Against these players, I'd fold both without even giving it a second thought. I think the second hand is closer, but he'd have to be a lot looser. Even then, given the oppressive rake structure at 5/10, I think the play is probably a losing one.

To your follow-up questions:
1) Against the player I think you're describing, my defaults would be: AJo+; ATs+; KJs+; KQo and 77/88+. But, that could change a bit depending on what I think he's actually opening.
2) I really have no idea, and can't make an educated guess.
3) No, I don't think so because there just aren't many boards where you're going to be comfortable enough to actually value-bet all three streets. What will happen more often is you'll bet the flop/turn and check behind on the river, which is pretty much what the other guy is hoping for.

Lately, I've been trying to really tighten up my range when playing 5/10 or below, so I can't really answer that until I get a better handle on what I'm doing wrong at 5/10.

On the AK9 flop, if he just calls the flop and checks to me on the turn, I'm definitely betting. It might be a lot closer than I think, but I against the guy described, I have no fear of being bluffed off my hand if he decides to check-raise, and I think the broadway hands compose a fair amount of his range. If I do check behind on the turn, it'd be with the intention of re-evaluating the river: I'd definitely fold a Q/J/T, but if your range is accurate, then I think the river should be a fold regardless unless you hit your set.

Well, I guess I'm too loose cuz I think both situations are very close. I think the fact that the BB is loose is bad and pushes hand 1 to a fold. The fact that the CO opener is laggy and bad pushes it towards a 3-bet. Only thing I'm worried about there is that you said he's a lag but only opens 15% so I dunno what his range is. BTW--I know this is not relevant to the thread but I am very much interested to find out what hands guys like joker will call 2 more with in the BB and what are important things to consider in that spot.

Not that I do it, but how about calling 44 in hand one, keeping the pot small, not having much chance to drive bb out anyways and being to raise favorable flops and drive bb out.

I'm usually folding but always reraising if he opens in CO and sometimes if he opens in hijack.

Re: I need to be humored...

The first hand is a significant preflop error in my opinion. If he is a 20% pfr type I suspect you need around 88.

The second one would be less of an error (but still an error) vs a 20% pfr type but vs a 13%-15% pfr laggy guy it is once again a significant mistake. Around 77 is probably right.

The 33 turn bet is horrible vs a LAG with a pfr that low. He has a gutshot (which he is almost certainly incapable of folding on the turn) or better on that board nearly 100% of the time.

Re: I need to be humored...

Default fold both pre-flop.

Both are playable in very specific situations as which these do not qualify. Playing the pot HU is a prerequisite for profitability except when I flop the set. So, a loose blind rules out situation 1. As played and on that flop, I'm done when he calls the flop c/bet because of effective odds.

Situation 2 would depend in large measure on game dynamics, etc. So, in a coaching situation I would advise a student to fold without a 2nd thought.

Re: I need to be humored...

I didn't see that the PFR in situation 2 only had 13-15 pfr. I was thinking of a 20 PFR guy when I said it was close. I no longer think situation 2 is close.

1. instafold any pair below 88

2. i'd probably fold because his pfr is so low. if his pfr were normal, like 3/4 of his vpip, i'd probably 3bet any pair and tons of other hands that i think i can extract postflop with

I think these are both closer than do others - the lagtard BB in hand 1 means probably fold.

I think I tend to 3bet hand 2 a fair amount unless CO is extremely SD bound.
