i just drove across country, i have seen at least two, posisbly more of those exact crosses. i did go through oklahoma and texas.

Yeah you're right. Groom is in the panhandle on the way to OKC. Apparently it's the 2nd biggest cross in the western hemisphere.

My advice to OP is get a good TV and a Netflix subscription.

I have never been to OKC, but if somebody here is saying that it does not compare favorably to Tulsa (where I HAVE been), that is very bad news.

I was just there for about ten days helping a friend. Was my first time there but i can give you an idea of what I thought of the place.

First off I found the road/highway structure to be rather stupid and sometimes confusing atleast for a first timer compared to where I live in Minneapolis.

I was in the NW part, which seemed like a suburb and I'm told is a better part of the city. Apartment I saw was gated, had everything, 2bedroom, probably new within 5-8 years and rent was like 600/month. Wasn't top of the line but I was suprised to see the cost, something in MN like that would probably run 1k+.

The outside of the city like I said just seems like a suburb, tons of chains of crap, stores, etc. not really a huge nightlife. I didn't go into downtown much or at night so I'm not sure on that.

There was a huge area in between downtown and where I was that looked like the city had a way better economy 10-20 years ago. I saw block after block of what appeared to just be shutdown businesses. I drove down one stretch of about 8 blocks that had only one business open and it looked like a recycling place.

Overall it wasn't a terrible place or anything, just might be a bit of a change from LA.

edit: i didn't see anything in the city as far as casinos/rooms but i saw stuff on the outskirts so i'm guessing they're in the country or somewhat of a drive.

I've been looking at an area known as "Bricktown" which is basically the night-life younger district with parks and bars and [censored]...I figure I can't go wrong if I live in a non-ghey area of town with nightlife. I'm looking into renting a 1-bdrm loft deal and cost of living seems surprisingly low (like $1/sq ft downtown) so that might be the only pro so far.

I have some experience in smaller towns since I went to school in one, I felt just fine but it wasn't an actual city, more like a campustown.

Dude, since I never responded to your second PM, I'll just post here.

Bricktown is a neat area for a young, single guy. Personally, I'm and old married fart with kids. I would never live there. There is a lot of stuff going on, and clubs/bars/etc. nearby. It's not gonna compare to LA, obv.

OKC itself is very sprawling, Its not very centralized. Tulsa has a little more arts scene, etc. from what I understand (but I haven't been to Tulsa much at all).

As far as cheap, yeah, OKC will have an insanely low cost of living compared to LA. I have a mortgage note (on a 20-year note, btw) that is less than most people's rent for a one-bedroom in big cities, and that is in a "premium" market (Norman, a campus town, just on campus).

Poker:

Riverwind is just south of Norman (about 20-30 mins from Downtown OKC). has 23 poker table-room. It will be full with a list on Friday/saturday nites. 3/6 limit, 1/2 and 2/5 NL (ocassionally 5/10 NL). 1/2 PLO, sometimes 2/5 or 5/10 PLO. There are others, but none actually in the metro (has to be indian land), all about 20-30 minutes from downtown.
