I absolutley love my Bose QC3s. I use them during the first 3-4 levels in the tournaments I play. I feel that my playlist relaxes me and helps me to play better. However, I know they sometimes cause me to miss some things and I'm never afraid to ask what the action was if I could'nt hear it. Even though it sometimes gets me some annoyed looks. If I was playing in a huge tourney like the ME though, I would be very very careful so somthing like this didn't happen.

Beware audiophiles recommending headphones. For many (including me) the differences in sound quality are pretty much inaudible. To some, the differences are glaring, but I simply cannot tell the difference between a set of Grado SR80s and stock earbuds.

Try different ones out, but you may find that you can't tell the difference, in which case, you should go for comfort and other gimmicky features (which Bose is famous for).

My work environment is annoyingly loud (i.e., people in offices next to me are loud and obnoxious). I have a pair of these from Etymotic, and they are amazing. The noise cancelation and sound quality are both superb.

In a poker room, I'd be worried that the noise cancelation might be a bit too effective, though (like for the poor fellow referenced in the OP).

The sound quality and accuracy of the Shure E4G will amaze you. The fit might take some getting used to, since they're meant to be worn deep in your ear, but they're by no means uncomfortable. The MSRP is $300 but they can be had for slightly under $200 online.

If earbuds aren't for you, the Sennheiser HD280 is probably the best value for money. Unfortuntely they're very akward to transport. They can be had for less than $100 but will crush most headphones that cost three times that.

I agree that the headphones you got are complete garbage. Here are two much better options:

Senn EH-350

Senn PX100

The px100s immediately reminded me of yours. Sorta compact and easy to carry.

No, they don't. This is like wine tasting ... some people can really tell the difference between two bottles of wine, and I am happy for them. For me, it's just something you drink with dinner and I don't really care.

You can't discount audiophile, non-audophile. I am not an audophile, and my Bose have been great for me over the past 3 years. I've travelled about a quater of a million miles on airplanes and they are great. I'm not saying the best ... I'm saying that I don't care and can't tell the difference, and wouldn't care if I could tell the difference. If there are better, it just wouldn't matter to me as the Bose are perfectly sufficient.

Shaniac ... those are goot headsets ... keep 'em and enjoy 'em and ignore the Bose-hating that you are about to hear here. Bose-hating is kinda of a sport to some in the audophile world.
