100 for MTT's is solid and around 30 to 40 full BI's for NL cash games (more on the 40-50 side for 6max) is my rule (I'm kind of a nit though)

This is really conservative for NLHE cash. 40 buy-ins is standard advice for PLO, which usually requires double the bankroll of NLHE.

20 is ok for NL cash as long as you're willing to move down if things don't go well. If you don't think you have the discipline for that, 40 is probably a better number.

Can I ask why is this true for PLO?

cause every time ur allin its a set v. a combo draw (50/50) and if u run bad at those, then u lose infintie buyins.

And this is, more or less, the reason that it was the correct answer.

Re: Best way to build bankroll?

My 2c ... building a bankroll and building skill do not proceed at the same pace! My game improved immeasurably when I started to mix up different disciplines eg MTT, Ring, STTs; played some full ring and some HU, and learned PLO. Definitely develops your poker intuition. So, build a bankroll but build skill simultaneously. If you are going to play ring, play 1c/2c for 10k hands until you can beat it, then move up. Play 3.30/5.50 freezeouts, even take a shot at the 3.30 rebuy once a week, and learn STTs so you can play the 6.50s and the Dble shootout sats.

Play cash games.
Don't move up in limits the soonest posible.
Don't take shots at higher limits.
Play low-buyin MTT whenevr you're profiting in the cash games.
Be disciplined.
......??
PROFIT!
