Yea she was like "why didnt you hit him back?" and trying to explain myself and my friends actions I just felt like even more of a tool. I ended up letting it go and then just talking to him after it happened.

Both are worthy of consideration.

But not hitting him back, if you can still maintain your cool, is probably a better indicator of what you're really made of than macho'ing it up in response. If he goes for a second swing, of course, cream him.

After he sobers up, maybe the next day, in private so he doesn't feel any pressure to clown it up and be a douchebag for the crowd, tell him anyone can make a mistake. "A" mistake, as in, one. Tell him the next time it happens, you're going to know it's not coming from a friend anymore, and will act accordingly. And will remember that you owe him one already.

That's bad news because she isn't the type that hates violence. Next time she lets you säcks her, you should give it all you've got or she'll be out the door pretty soon.
