I would call it totally random events that because of the media frenzy on one fuel the media to over cover the second and third.

Remember a few years ago when every other day they were reporting shark attacks? Same thing. Random varience which then turns into a story which then causes the next story to get even more coverage and attention.

its summertime, usually a slow news period, coupled with a large increase of general crime.

I found out last Friday that a guy I worked with about 10 years ago brutally murdered his ex-girlfriend in 2004. The story was in the news b/c the trial ended in an a guilty verdict last week. He apparently travelled from NYC to Nantucket with the intention of murdering her. >30 stabs wounds.

I don't know why but this has been really bothering me all week. I barely knew the guy except to chat at work now and again.

The focus on these kinds of unimportant, boring events is why I don't watch the news.

There are hundreds of millions of non-newsworthy stories that weren't broadcast about all the people that didn't get brutally murdered lately.

All,

I'm locking this thread, because it really wasn't a very good OP and deserved to be in the random discussion thread.
