pardon if this is obvious, but i'm trying to learn..

say we bet $40, he raises to $110-$120. we're oop and so many turn cards suck, so calling is crappy. easy board to bluff at, so folding seems bad. am i right (amirite) that we have to shove?

[/ QUOTE ]

If raised you probably have to let this one go, unless opponent is a complete maniac.

Shoving is not good as you will only be called when you are beat.

i agree shoving isn't "good" per se, but if we get raised i don't think any option is good because it's a gross spot.

i just hate folding to a flop raise on this board from a decently thinking, aggressive player because we get raised sooo often by flush draws/air. if i'm villain and know my opponent's folding TPTK here, and by virtue of that, maybe 88/99, i'm raising this flop IP like every time and making a killing. you're very likely right that folding may be best, but it just seems pretty damn exploitable.

If he seems fishy and "doesn't get it," I'd stick in a cbet-looking value bet for around 35-40ish and see what he does. We have a decent hand here. We raised and he called PF so either he hit this with a worse kicker, he has overs, or he has a PP. If he flat calls our flop bet, I'd prob check the turn and wait for anything fishy before a likely VB on the river.
If he flopped a set, good for him and I get away. Shoving is a terrible idea. We ONLY have TPTK. That's it. If he has an overpair, a set, or two pair, he's stacking us.

Re: your line and WHY...

I think what people are overlooking is the fact that there is not a single card (minus an A or a 7) that I want to see come the turn. So to me, it seems imperative that I end this hand as soon as possible. So either I want to take it down on the flop OR I want to invest as little as possible into this pot.

I think to achieve both of these goals, a c/r does best. As many have reiterated, getting raised sucks, and getting called sucks. In both spots I have to fold or shut down and pray for no more action. A c/r gives me the best chance to win right now WHILE also controlling the pot in respect to giving myself a better chance to see free turn/river cards if called.
