I agree with Dids, no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Unless you think the entire thread premise is wrong or that it is totally out of control. I think deleting those few posts and returning it would be fine.

I don't feel like you've explained to my satisfaction the logic behind locking the whole thread instead of just deleting the bad posts. Nor do I think "run its course" is a decent end to this argument.

This is the kind of stuff that 2p2 loves. If we can't give them some guild lines as to what is acceptable, it's just doing to make it harder to moderate. A good way to do that is to use threads like that to show what flies and what doesn't.
